Easy Peasy --- if you have the Certificate of Origin that came with the plate!
Mine was produced (body kit built) and shipped 11/88. The COO matches up with that plate line the Title would to a VIN.

Of course NO way to tell when it was finished --- except if you could track back the title and registration steps like CARFAX does for vehicles with a 17 digit VIN. I thought mine was bought in Nov 1989 - but looks like 1988!
According to wikipedia, fiberfab became fiberfab international in 1983 and was also bought by CMC in 1983. So the question is how long did they use Fiberfab International data plates before using CMC plates. I have no origin documents, just trying to zone in on the year of the kit, or build. I heard some cars were built by fiberfab/cmc.
I, probably finished Bwaahahahahaaa!
The last FF build manual is dated 6/85. Even though CMC gobbled them up in 1983 seems both brands existed for several years together.
so maybe 83-85...wonder if there is a fiberfab registry #survey somewhere. A few fiberfab international number tags with dated origin certificates (or personally known dates) would dial me in close enough.
In a parellel universe, the TD replica guys are having a similar conversation on what serial numbers mean, total production figures, etc.
Not getting much further than the conversation here. Which likely means it's time for beer.
Any way to find who previous owner was? Kind of like researching ancestry - one leaf at a time! Then go to that state and request prior registration data - often there is a charge and even a 10 year back limit.
There is a Yahoo FF group with a couple ex-CMC employees contributing. One said he had boxes of old records salvaged from CMC dumpster. I always wanted to find total # of CMC classic and CMC Calif wide body cars made. I know its lots!
