The car is located in Palmetto Bay area of Miami, Florida and is a fun driver (I drive it about 3 times/week to get milk or any other excuse/errand) but it is far from perfect.

The front has paint crazing/cracking and the paint on the body has some cloudy spots which were on there when I bought the car. There are also some chips on the door gaps (I was told are easily repairable if repainting the car) I have kept it in the garage and never driven it in the rain, I have never parked it outside overnight and I only use Rec90 Non-Ethanol fuel. I bought the car in San Diego and shipped it for $700 in a closed hauler using UShip.

I know that the gauges are not the speedster gauges and the shifter has a reverse ring (vw shifter) which is also not original but very convenient (diehards have got to be pissed they can't critique).  The car comes with mirrors that are not the correct mirrors but are awesome for a driver, and it has a stereo and speakers which came with the car but have never worked (I know, I know a stereo and speakers!!).  The brakes could use adjusting or having them replaced (drum) and it is a single carb.  The seats, dash and interior are in perfect shape and the woven floor mats give it a beautiful antique look.  The tonneau cover has a few broken snaps and needs to be redone, but the removable soft top is perfect.  The only thing I changed since I purchased the car is the steering wheel from a leather Momo to a wooden wheel and I put a boot over the shifter to give it a more genuine look.

I love this car, but I purchased another toy and if this doesn't get sold, my wife will either divorce or murder me in my sleep.

$20k is my firm price for a quick sale.  I would rather not post on Samba, Craigslist or Ebay, I hope a true enthusiast takes the car and either drives it as often as I do, or improves upon it.

+1 to Wolfgangs fuel filter suggestion.

Regarding the price, I think you gents are missing the point. His wife wants him to sell one of his toys. He's listed the Speedster for sale just as she requested. It's not his fault that nobody is buying it. It looks like He will have to keep driving it until the right buyer comes along.  Might be easier to buy her some jewelry and sleep with one eye open.

Best of luck the sale! *wink*

Well the only value for a car is what the buyer is willing to pay for it, and any informed buyer should find out what the new car builders charge and do his market research. Some vendors will always be outthere thinking that their car is worth more than the market knows it is worth, but while you can find guys called Tucker everywhere, on this list you won't find guys called Tucker who will allow you to change their name and make is start with an S instead.

So what should we have done differently?

I think it was the *wink* that pushed him over the edge. My bad.

Part of me thinks he picked up that 14,500.00 car he showed us back in April and now wants to flip it for 20k because he saw another one listded for 20k on CL. My bet is that if you troll Miami CL you will see an add from MiamiSpeedster.

No harm in this process, but you can't take your ball and go home when someone calls you on it. Just sayin.

Hey! I'm the only idiot on here. Do you think these people don't know the value of your car? If you had of done your research and priced the car correctly then these "idiots" would have helped you sell your car! ...after a barrage of commentary first though.

Bahahaha!  Wow, someone clearly doesn't know what his car is worth!  Bargain hunting?!  $20K for an old CMC/FF should be called price gouging!

Been seeing a lot of CMC/FF's on ebay and CL lately in the $20K's, and every time I see it I think two things:

1. Someone's trying to pull a fast one

2. Pity the fool buyer that doesn't know what this car is

I think people who aren't enthusiasts about these replicas don't understand the difference between the different manufacturers of speedsters.  Just because VS and JPS cars sell in the $20-30K range, and Beck and IM cars sell for higher, doesn't make your old CMC/FF worth that.  It isn't.  Sorry, but it isn't.  You can take your ball and go home.  But your car is worth at max $15K on a great day.  The engine bay isn't even sealed off.

You're right. I got my Madoffs confused. Andrew died in September 2014. Bernie suffered a heart attack January 2014 and was let out of prison for treatment. He has since been returned to prison and is now suffering from Stage 4 cancer of some type.
I bet I could get 20k for my CMC.

Why? It's the sum total of the parts. New Pro Street transmission, 1915cc motor, A1 Sidewinder, full flow oil filter, type 4 oil cooler and associated cooling tins, setrab external oil cooler,  new master cylinder, 4 wheel discs, wide 5 wheels, VDO Porsche gauges, etc.

The point I'm making is that it's not just the make of the car that limits the price. Upgrades should also be taken into consideration.

Just my dos pesos.

Bought my CMC kit new in 1989 for $8k (plus $1400! shipping) - with chassis and parts have over $12k "invested".  At 4% interest for 26 years - it's now worth $23,692!  WooHoo!  That's better than my investment with ole Bernie.

Point is it's a hobby and NOT an investment.  Restoring an old real 356 is perhaps both a hobby (if you do it yourself) and an investment --- but still very risky.

So the one I have listed for a customer with several upgrades is a decent deal. Big motor, porsche fan, weber carbs, A1 exhaust,4 wheel disc brakes, narrowed beam, polished fuchs,etc....then why doesn't someone buy it!

The below is a guide only ... Seller / Buyer's experience may differ.

A unassembled CMC - FiberFab $3,000 to 5,000 depending on how complete

....with or w/o chassis, motor trans  etc.

An older CMC - FiberFab (running) in need of mechanical and or cosmetic  upgrades.... $7,500 to $9,500

Deduct 25% for  a less desirable flared, unless it's a higher end styled car.

Used VS / JPS $15,000 to $22,000 depending on condition, motor size and options

Used VS super wide add up to 20%.

Beck's approx: Mid $20s to upper $20's and low to mid $30's +-

Pan based older IM's in good running condition $13,000 to $22,000

Later IM's $30,000 to whatever the Buyer and Seller agree on.

Good point. Kind of sinks my theory. My guess is that car won't sell because of the rear ride height.
