I have been looking for a speedster for sometime now and just ran across a Fiberfab that is on a 62 pan. Does anyone have any vendor specific things I should look at? He said someone stole his speedo out of the car so he has no idea on mileage. It doesn't appear to have the center trim piece or the badging, is it going to be big dollars for these little trim pieces and is there a reason I just couldn't get VS parts for it?

Thanks
James

James,
Uneven gaps all around the doors, front hood and deck lid , should close even with the rest on the speedster body. Check for rust on the floor pans and verticle axle beam supports and where the frame head is factory welded to the center tunnel section of the VW "chassis"

The mention of the stolen speedometer made me laugh.... that one is as good as hearing the "first numeral 1 xx,xxx in front of all the rest of the mileage on a speedo ........."ummmmm musta fell off!"

If the price is right and you are willing to do the misc work, a decent CMC Fiberfab are starting to get hard to come by and the ones that are available are going up in price

Whew...never mind. That car was beat and then they put an awfull paint over it. The door gaps where so large I could put my thumb in them. For the paint job, they didn't even bother to take the lights and the gasgets off, they even painted the tail pipe red. The tail pipe had more paint on it that the body underneth the license plate light. It went down hill from there. I didn't even bother to look at the motor or crawl underneth to look at the pan.

Thanks,
James
James,

You have found what I would refer to as a "Fixer".

A friend of mine just baught a speedster on the 26 March (Saturday) with a few problems. The car has low milage however, its far from perfect (Wheel Bearing Problems, Throttle Linkage, Exhaust System, Poor Paint, Speedo Problems etc.) It was a hardship sale due to illness by the seller.

He got the car for $9K.

Nardi Steering Wheel, Two Sets of Wheels, New Top/Tonna Cover/Side Curtins, 3 Sets of hub caps).

As another owner indicated a Fiberfab kit is $7K-$8K, and Labor to finish the car equils a starting point.

If the car has some +'s, it amounts to how bad you want the car.

Good Luck,

Jack Blake
