Does anyone recall a post, that I've searched for with no luck, about the material and steps required for repairing glass with a sheet metal extension...i.e. mating the two together.

I seem to remember it as a complicated fabrication (perhaps for an MG replica) very well done with detailed photos of the proceedure.

That was most likely TC. I think he was extending sheet metal with glass though, which is the usual need. He hangs out at the MG Experience forum now, mainly in the MGA section. He's the man for doing hillbilly bodywork that looks not-hillbilly.

FYI, fiberglass resins will stick to steel and aluminum without much fuss at all. Make sure the metal is clean and rough it with some 60 or 80 grit. Stainless I don't know, but probably just as good. For extra grip, assuming you have room, drill a few holes in the metal and sandwich the glass around it.

Mating the materials is easy. Making the shape just right--that's the tricky part. Good luck.

Thanks Ed for the lead. I'll see if I can track Canty down through the MG Forum.

Last weekend an authentic speedster with California yellow plates broke down (electrical) practically in front of my house. I offered to help but the snarly (couldn't blame him) Gucci shod owner cut me short...so I just gawked a bit and left him fiddling about under his dash...But,I took notice of, and really liked, the graceful compound curved transition of his front fender wheel wells as opposed to the blunt squarish shape of my Vintage. Cutting a slight radius and adding a lip might duplcate that...

It's something for me to think about...way down at the bottom of my 'to do' list.
