Hey!  New Englanders!

THIS Saturday is the date for the New England VolksFair at Hebert's Candy Mansion, RT 20, Shrewsbury, MA.  The GPS address is:

574 Hartford Turnpike (Rt. 20)
Shrewsbury, MA 01545

They've finally (two years back) dropped the Corvair folks (bunch-a losers, anyway) and have been having a really nice show with Volkswagens and derivatives including stock and modified VW sedans and squarebacks, VW Buses, LOTS of Dune Buggies....OH!, and a few more Speedstahs every year!

Last year, I thought that we stole the show with our six Speedsters.  OK, so there was that one Manx dune buggy with the trick interior, Turbo Suby power and that long board on the roof, but....Hey!  It didn't have either A/C or HEAT!  Whassup wit Dat?

And we had LOTS more people hanging around the Speedsters than there were hanging around the Dune Buggies.   OK, so thanks to me, we were parked under the only shade on that part of the lawn, but Hey!  WE had the PEOPLE hanging with US!

So if you're within a couple of hours of Shrewsbury, MA (not only the home of Hebert's Candies, but also the past home of Spag's, too, remember?????? (a moment of silence, please)) then I urge you to come on out and hang with the rest of us "Speedstah Luvahs" in a comfortable setting where the ice cream is awesome and everybody speaks "Massachusetts"!  YEAH, BABY!  Not only that, but you'll be able to see my newly installed Gas Heater!  Whoo Hooo!

I'll be there around 10 am  -  I have to cheer on a biking buddy who is riding in the Pan Mass Challenge this weekend, riding 180 miles for Cancer research - right after that, I bug out for Hebert's.  I'll try to get the same primo shady spot on the lawn - we may have to muscle a few other "kit cars" outta the way, but we're up to that (I got that really ugly whateveritwas to move last year, right?).

So.......See YOU there?  (yeah, that means YOU, Boothy!)  I've got a couple of replica guys coming from the local 356 club, and the more the merrier.

We may also see the annual appearance of the infamous "TC" from years past.  THAT is worth the $10 bucks registration, all in itself, just to find out what the hell he's building, NOW!

Swiners

PS:  Unless you're OK with Hamburgs and Hot Dogs, plan on doing lunch after - we can go to some place local and way better than Burgs and dogs........ And there is a Dunkies about 1 mile from Hebert's (both east and west) for those needing morning caffeination.

Well, TC didn't show this year, but Boston Bob Elliot was there and told me he'll soon be bugging out for the anti-snow climes of Florida.  Seems to be a popular choice of New Englanders and others on here.  I also met several of you who dropped by to see what was going on, and who showed up but Bill Sr. and Bill jr. Pickering with their Burgundy IM.  Seems like I have to go to this show to see old Carlisle buddies.  Another surprise was Mike from New Milford, CT, with his black , 1989 Fiberfab classic body.  He had not heard of this site so I gave him the URL - maybe we'll hear from him on here.  Lots of nice personal touches on his car, along with a 2,332 engine.  We were the "Salt and Pepper Twins" of the Speedster section and the Speedsters looked GOOD!

Here is the photo bomb:

There were several VW sedans sporting these picnic baskets - very cute.DSC02783

This "Rat Rod" has been turning low to mid 10 second 1/4 miles - Wow!DSC02784DSC02785

Glad to see the Fiberfab MGs represented.  This one was really clean.DSC02786

For all you Chris Nichols/Five Cent Racing watchers - That's Chris, Joshua and Lucas on the far left:DSC02787DSC02788DSC02789

Put a turbo on a 1915 and you, too, can get 187 hp on a dyno......  the paint is super-deep black cherry, and the workmanship and attention to detail is fabulous.  The dash had been modified with a lot of extra gauges but it looked so stock that you had to look long and hard and then you realized how custom it was - super-nice job.DSC02790

And everyone LOVED the white walls.DSC02791

This was parked over by the Candy Mansion.  The "rust" is actually VW brown paint, buffed out to primer underneath, but the real trick is the engine hood:DSC02792DSC02793

Quite a few buses showed up, and the camper versions were stunning.DSC02794DSC02795

And so was this pickup, hauling a tractor.DSC02796DSC02797DSC02798

LOTS of Bugs there in several classes.DSC02799DSC02800

This is like taking your Irish Pub with you.....If you're eclectic.DSC02801DSC02802

Believe it or not, THIS is a VW pan with a 2,110 and a custom Camaro body.  Sounds weird, but the workmanship in crafting the body was amazing.DSC02803
