Don't see too many of these in Illinois. Head turns and waves are non-stop. I think I had my own parade today. Everything I hoped it could be! Thank you all for the inspiration.

Kirk actually talked me out of leather. Have plenty of other extras on here with the hard top and AC. Which is insanely powerful. Hard top is great and makes for a sweet, smooth ride on the highway. Asked to ensure the vinyl had some texture to it and it absolutely looks and feels like leather. The original speedster seats are really comfortable also and had them fully upholstered without the slots in back. Look and feel great for hours of driving.

Just saw about the gathering at starved rock. Hugely disappointed that is my vacation week and will be long gone on the 22nd. PLEASE let me know when there might be another local get together.

Where are you located Brendan?

We get together infrequently, but try to make it at least once a year. We keep it pretty casual, and concentrate on driving, as opposed to standing around talking about driving. The Starved Rock thing will be a blast, and it's my big chance to finally meet Tom Blankenship from Detroit.

We're getting quite an Illinois contingent (Marty Grzynkowicz, Joe Fortino, Tony (Verbieten), Tom Boney, Paul (Ndpendant), Chris Starleaf (Starleaf1), and me. There may be more, but this is what I know of right now. I'm the outlier in the Peoria area, but there's no shortage of guys in Chicagoland and the Western Suburbs. Chris lives near Starved Rock, and Tom is from the city, and has a place in Kankakee.

There's a long weekend planned in the Western NC (Asheville) area in September (check the events tab) and at least Marty, Tom, and I are going to that (@Joe Fortino?)-- we'll probably caravan down together.

Anyhow, welcome! Really. You've got a gorgeous car.

Congrats, Brendan---beautiful job by Kirk and crew on your Speedster. And beehives too---I believe these are getting as popular as the ovals.  You will enjoy working with Kirk and Mary as they are caring, responsive folks.  I understand that there are 9-10 cars at Vintage almost ready to get to their new homes ---talk about production!

I was impressed by the perfect gaps at every place where panels come together.

Last--you have the right idea about seeking out opportunities to gather with fellow Speedster owners. Sure, the car is a blast but the real pleasure is the camaraderie that you will enjoy with some great folks at the various events.

Just a beautiful car--good for you.

Brendan, look great! What color grey/silver is that?

Kirk at VS calls the exterior Pewter. It's intended to be a match to the original '56 Porsche Graphite Metallic 5603. Such a cool paint. Looks bright silver in sunlight and deep grey in shade or night. Chrome looks awesome against it. Interior is wine but looks pretty bright red in these photos. Love it all!

Come on Marty...............it's right there!!

Thanks Stan,

I'm in the north suburbs of Chicago, in Highwood. My girl lives in Naperville though so I'm there quite often too.

Thanks for the great response and the welcome. I'll keep my eye out for these guys and events. Kirk mentioned another build he just finished in the spring that came back to Chicago too. Sorry to be missing Starved Rock! Will try to get to the next one.

Is there a headliner? How is it (top) mounted? More pic's please!

Hey Bill,

Top is an incredibly snug fit. It sits within the snaps set for the soft top/tonneau. With a similar hug onto the windscreen. And three rubber "clamps" that fit over large bolts in the back seat rim. Plenty of rubber seals it against the body.

I'll try to get some pics of the details this weekend. Only hassle of it is that it fits best with the soft top completely removed. But that makes for an actually usable back bench — for a dog, duffle or groceries. Super cozy though.

Oh, and yes to the headliner. Mine is light grey. No pattern to it whatsoever. Looks tidy. Will shoot pics of that too!

One of them is mine - supposed to be here by the weekend!

Beautiful car Brendan - really nice interior/exterior color combo. I love the bee hives too - I ordered them on my car as well.

  Bill

Thanks Bill! Are you local to Vintage for a visit? I enjoyed being there a couple afternoons to see some progress. Goes pretty quick once the body is mounted. Hard top added a couple weeks to the whole deal but I couldn't believe how fast it was still.

What colors did you choose? Can't wait to see more great pics.

No, unfortunately I'm not local to Vintage. We're retired, so we could have spent time out in Ca. during the build, but we have a grandson who just finished up 17 months of cancer treatment in Illinois, so we were needed there.

I really like your top too - I wish I would have spent the bucks to get one. I won't do it now - I'm afraid the color wouldn't match when not having it sprayed with the body.

We went with Champagne yellow for ours. It doesn't seem to be a popular color for Speedsters, but we really like it.
