Some of you know I have been searching for the past three years to find a wheel that I feel would look good on my car.  I've tried a number of dealers, but no one has been able to supply an off the shelf wheel to meet the specifications need.  It's almost impossible to find a six inch wide wheel these days, in the diameter I wanted, for the front of the car.

I tried custom made wheels at shops in England, the U.S., and in Canada that were either too expensive, too dodgy, or just too far away for me to feel comfortable measuring the dimensions myself, and then hoping the wheels would arrive and would fit.

Finally, a couple of weeks ago, at a semi-Porsche gathering (other interesting cars are allowed, and appreciated), a fellow mentioned there was a wheel maker just a few miles from where I live.

So, after a visit, with detailed measurements taken, I am getting the wheels I have wanted since I commissioned the car.  And I am not ashamed to say they are an exact copy of the wheels on the car, of which mine is a very close copy.  Imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, so I don't feel like a copy cat at all.

So, here are the drawings of the wheels, and in about six weeks, they will be on my car.  They are forged aluminum, 17" diameter, with 15" centers, and double step lips, and will be powder coated silver.  With the correct size tires, they won't look too big for the car.

PERFECT!!!  I'd love something like that on the coupe, but I imagine they're a bit pricey.

EDIT: Just checked and yep, they're pricey.  They also don't make anything smaller than 17".

@Lane Anderson

Lane.  They make wheels starting at 15"

And, calculate the exchange rate from Canadian to U.S., and you save a good amount.

@calmotion- The later 911 suspension under Bob's car was designed for somewhat shorter sidewall tires so unless he goes really crazy with the aspect ratio (which I don't for a moment think Bob has any intention of doing) I'm sure it will be a great ride.

And @Bob: IM S6 - Again, great choice! It'll be even more badass (if that's even possible) than it is already!

Yeah, most of the ride feel, or softness, comes from the amount of give in the sidewalls.

Remember the days when Big cars, like Buicks and Pontiacs, had those super balloon tires, the equivalent of 325/15 on 8" wide rims?  Gave you a super-mushy ride but couldn't handle for beans.

Those 17" will fill the wheel well perfectly and keeping a decent sidewall height will insure a proper ride, too.  Want to track it?  Add 4+ pounds per corner for track day.

And on top of that........

They'll look Awesome!   Nice choice, Dr. Bob!
