If it's out of sight, it's probably not easy to reach. Also, if it's out of sight and you can't get to it (you're indisposed, say), how will anyone else ever find it??

I have a CMC with a roll bar, and I have mine tucked between the roll bar supports on the Driver's side. Easy to get at from outside the car on the drivers side, almost impossible to reach from WITHIN the car. That worked OK until I added the tonneau and convertible top, now it'll take 10 - 15 seconds of frantic effort to get to it (efforts are ALWAYS frantic when fire of your car is involved). It's also unknown to anyone but me. Not too cool...

I've been seriously thinking of moving it to the top of the central tunnel, right behind my elbow (up against the leading edge of the "rear seat") so I can get to it in a hurry. I also have to make sure the mounting release is a quick disconnect - not sure here at the PC.

George Brown has his mounted on top of the tunnel, just ahead of the shifter - another real good spot. TOTALLY visible and very easy to reach, no matter what. Remember....all of the resin holding your car's body together is flammable......

Think about it.....you'll come up with a good spot.

I have a pair (I'm an unlucky sort) but ws not sure where I wanted to mount them yet, I thought about one on the tunnel or near my leg like Bruce did. I am pretty tall and my seats are all the way back so for now I find one tucks neatly in the triangle left between seat, tunnel and rear seat shelf on each side. Easy to see, easy to grab and secure. Hmm, might just leave them there.

--Paint it up to look like one of those plaid thermos bottles from the fifties and put it right in plain sight.
--Cut the bottom out of a Guiness, slide it over the extinguisher, and keep it in a cup holder.
--Slice the bottom off of a half liter of diet Coke, stuff the extinguisher inside and just let it roll around on the passenger side floor along with all the rest of the "empties."

Either, or . . . lookin' good . . .

Thanks, guys, for the good suggestions. I'm going to go for the tunnel, in front of the shifter. There's been a fire extinguisher rolling around the back of our Series IIA Land Rover for the past two years (if it hasn't been installed by now, ain't never gonna happen), so I may have to resort to one of TC's fine out-of-the-box suggestions for that one. Come summer, we have plenty of half-liter Fresca bottles (good gin mixer) around the house.

Andi,

Eventually, I would like to invest in a chrome halon unit to install in the same spot. For now, I don't want to be caught unprepared.

Three black electrical zip strips around the metal cross bar keeps the extinguisher mount in place.

Plenty of clearance since I don't have a radio. You could place it directly in front of the passenger seat.

Andi,
Despite the poor Lucas electrics old Rovers do catch fire too. I was buying gas (petrol, sorry)one morning when smoke started pouring out from under the hood of my 1967 Ser. IIa 109. I sniped off the offending wires, stopped the smouldering and drove her home where I had to completely rewire her. Glad the fire extinguisher was handy though.

"Land Rover, the worlds most reliable, unreliable vehicle" Whether going to K-Mart or Katmandu you will have to stop to fix something but you will get there! Hmmm, kind of like an old air cooled VW huh?

Tony
Reliably unreliable, indeed. Driving at night, I can always rely on the Rover's headlights dimming to a yellow glow by the time I get home. But you've gotta love a vehicle that you can stuff with muddy dogs and mountain bikes then clean out with a hose. I don't even let the dogs look at the Speedster. Speaking of which, I wish I knew about chrome fire extinguishers, that would have looked pretty cool. Someday....

"Paint it blue or yellow so it looks like a nitrous setup for your Outlaw ??"

Tony,

What a neat idea! I think that I'll do one up like you said, maybe try to make it look like the old "Sneaky Pete" set-up.

I have one in my Ghia that I painted "ol' skool" blue outlined flames on, looks kinda retro, but I like your idea better.
