Hello All!

I spent the morning reading the past threads regarding firewalls. All good stuff. My question is, shouldn't the firewall have a small air gap behind it? I mean use 1/4" (or whatever) spacers to give it a gap rather than fastening it on top of the glass? Maybe it's a space issue or just unnecessary? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are using aluminum or stainless steel as the firewall material. It to made to make the engine bay look nice and be easy to clean - and not to be a heat sink. Even the louver stainless steel VW one isn't to direct air - its just to look nice. I would apply a sound deadener like Dynamat and place the material you have in mind directly on top of it with Aluminum rivets. Although a gap might make it dissipate heat a little better (not noticeable) but it would probably drum and vibrate.  The Dynamat would absorb sound and deaden vibrations. Just my thought.
