Fire wall splash apron - You can use any chunk of thin rubber - the key part they were after is not that the firewall has to be covered but the fact that you are making a skirt 2" longer to keep road junk from flying up. Suspect it does deaden the sound on the fire wall over bare fiberglass but other materials (poor man dynamat) would do a better job (but still make the splash guard).
Wolf,
Do you have a photo of the rubber piece you're describing?
Sounds kind of like a mud-flap for the bottom of the firewall.
If that's the case, I suppose electrical safety matting could be used in inconspicuous places too, eh?
Almost goes without saying I never had benefit of such things with the Hoopty. I had a mat at the bottom of my engine compartment that looked like the kind you used to see on the floor of a Bug back in the day, under the insert mats. It was sloppily-cut and a poor fit. I tossed it months ago and don't have anything to replace it with.
Does someone have a firewall template diagram that they have created for a CMC? I dig the Aluminum idea. I can see if being as easy as making the thin wood template, and then fine cutting the aluminum to the wood template.

If not, when I am done, I will post my template to the site for future reference. Hey there's an idea for a new forum category. Something like "Tricks of the Trade".
Todd,
Pick up some white poster board from the local school supply store. Buy 6 sheets ..they are cheap. The best way to go about making the template is engine out of the car. I have done it both ways ... engine out is the only way !
With the engine out and the back of the car jacked up , just crawl under the engine compartment and start . The easiest when is to force the poster board into the left or right top corner and work towards the middle. Use your thumb to crease the poster board into the corners to get pattern. You most likely going to perform this in three segments. Use tape to hold each piece in place. When completed just transfer the pattern ot what ever medium you will be using for the firewall. I went with carbon panel that I fab'ed up from scratch. I see if I kept the fire wall template I made. I'll send you a copy of what I have ...If I have it still.
