Something I didn't know, the first 356 Speedster was a mid engine.

Super design lines and styling considering the year and what US based cars looked like in 1948.
Don't forget the US '48 Tucker Torpedo! Rear H6 flat engine (166 hp), fuel injection, 4 wheel IRS and 4 wheel disk brakes while the big 3 were still pushing 1941 model cars.

Cord was truly a great car - ironically the Tucker used the Cord's transmission (despite being rear engined/rear wheel drive). Guess they flipped the R&P?
There are replicas of both the Cord and the Tucker!
Tucker Torpedo: The H6 flat engine was a helicopter motor, other ahead of it's time innovations included headlights that turned as the car did, padded dash etc, etc. When NJ Replicar Club was active a member " Mike D'Lorenzo " from Butler, NJ had a Tucker, as I understand it after our Government and the Big Three shut Tucker down the car ...one that sat on the line unfinished, parts were gathered and the car finished and I believe it was acquired by D'Lorenzo's father ( Paul correct me ?) I have no idea what became of it but know that ACCA in Hershey Pa now has a Tucker display.....
So the you have it, a day in History ~

I find it odd that no one had a comment about the first 356 being a mid engine.
