OK Gang, Morro Bay was too cool and wish it could have lasted longer. Maybe it will as Karen and I are off to Carmel in the Speedy. We will go up Highway 1 along the coast all the way. Read in the paper that someone shot three elephant seals for no apparent reason. I doubt if they attacked anyone. Anyway, I got the new A-1 Sidewinder exhaust installed and hooked up the heater for Karen. Mike Lempert is making me a Derrington, but loned me a wood wheel in the meantime. I will post some pics when we get back. Please don't ever stop coming to my backyard and playing with us.
Warren, Mike Lempert is a neighbor of mine and is also making me a wheel. He does nice work, doesn't he? What kind did he loan (curiosity only).
Lane,
Next time yous see Mike ask him how my wheels are coming. I believe he's working on 6 for me... been quite a while and I feel like I'm bugging him, so I'll let you do it. :)

Will do. I know he has quite a backlog.

Lane, the next time you see Mike say hello for me. He may not remember me but he has my ongoing thanks.
Several years ago (maybe even 5?) I was looking for something like a Derrington wheel to fit a Moto Lita hub, in 14". Of course nothing like that existed. I stumbled onto Mike quite by accident. He made the wheel custom to my specs at a great price, and it seems like it was within only a few weeks (maybe 5?). Anyway it was a great deal all the way around and I totally recommend him and his product.
At the time, he wasn't doing anything with the speedster / spyder crowd. Obviously, the word got around (probably not just in our group) and he is very busy now!

Yup, he's busy all right. I know that at one point he had a backlog of around 100 wheels! He's got a part-time helper now, which should speed things up a bit. I've been waiting for mine for quite a while, but I'm not gonna rush him because I know how good it's gonna look.
Karen and I just got home from Carmel. Had a great time and the car ran good. The only problem we had was a guy side swipe me ten miles from home. What a bummer. Oh well, a reason to paint the body now. I will take some pics tomorrow.
Lane - The loaner Mike gave me was a 15.5 spoke LL. It's too big. I think I will like the 14.5 better. That is if Mike ever gets it done. I know Carey is waiting for an order. I am not in a hurry now. I just wanted to get the loaner for Morro Bay.

Warren so sorry about your car
how did it happen

A guy in a fish truck changed lanes from the left to the right when I was occupying that space. No major damage. Just a lot of sanding and paint. Scared the crap out of Karen though. Oh, me too. Just glad I had space on the right and not a guard rail. Got to drive really defensive in these very little cars.

Bad luck, Warren. We are glad you and Karen are alright, however. Keep your enthusiasm for our "little cars" and get it fixed quick to enjoy the summer.

Bummer that your trip was ruined by some a$$-wipe not paying attention. We're glad you weren't injured or major damage to your car!! If that were my Speedy, that driver would have a fish suppository!!
BTW - never punch another motorist when there's a cop a few cars back - don't ask me how I know!
Peace - Out!!

Warren, Glad to hear that both you and Karen are alright. I'm impressed with your ability to look at the bright side -- picking a new color or sticking with silver?

Well, what did Karen expect when she married a "bad boy"?.......
Seriously Warren, good work on making the best of a bad situation.
Careful out there!

We had a wonderful time in Carmel. These are the before and after shots just north of Pebble Beach and in my garage. Oh well, I wanted to remove the trim anyway. Now is my chance. Jim - I wanted to punch him, but I didn't know how to do it in Korean. I love that exhaust. It doesn't backfire anymore. Blake - it will stay silver, just without the trim (like a 58 Carrera GT) and now I can redo the spyder mirrors. I didn't like the way they fit anyway. Got to fill a lot of holes, but I've got a lot of time to do it right. No deadline, like getting ready for Morro. Vince - Is there a fish in that picture? I don't get it.
If you're going the Carrera route (nice choice) don't forget to take off the side deco strips as well. Did you get the bumper trim from Carey? I notice that they have a Carrera option on the website now.
Warren, Am i mistaken? you said a guy in a fish truck......
Make that SOB paint the whole car...

Vince - Guy in fish truck have lots of fish in his wallet. We settled very satisfactorily on the freeway. Man had no license, no insurance, no brains. Me buy lots of paint. Lane - Yes, the trim came from Carey.
Man-o-man, where was that guy when I wrecked my bike...

Warren, yoyur car looks sick. I like the Carerra look. The after shots look like you just finsihed a NASCAR race. Keep up the good work.

bummer about the accident Warren, so glad the other driver had lots of fish in his wallet, sounds like he was a real winner!
What a country!
Took it to the paint shop today. It will be the same color. The cost of paint - ouch!
Warren, you are a very sick man....
Oh, I all ready told ya that.
Have fun Amigo!

It's almost ready for primer. Do you like the spotty look? Maybe I will just have them throw some clearcoat on it. Yes, the steering wheel is on backwards. So?
