"I'd bet my 7" Fuchs are lighter then your 5" steelies."  Possibly, but the very low profile, wide rear wheels on the superwide are probably pretty heavy despite being aluminum.  Also, the taller sidewalls on the old-style wheels help quite a bit with the harshness.

Either way, these are Julio's and Ndependant's calls and these cars are not exactly about practicality.  Appearance is a great part of the attraction.

Im not just going for the wide look. Im trying to build a raw, mechanical race based car.  Steel rivet surfaces.  exposed mechanicals, bare minimal race car looks.  The wider rear with little to no flares up front, tubbed and low stance etc.  The buttoned up exact replicas are awesome to look at, but Im not trying to recreate an exact car but more of a porsche racer.

ND, look up Ken Vellas "Wicked 356"

I had similar aspirations (as you) for my car, but then I got married and had to consider the new wife's input.

I'm just glad she loves my passion for it...

I also second the above, talk to Alan "Dr. Clock" Merklin.

With a screaming motor and the "Mendeola suspension!

Anyone have pictures of Desi's wide body filled with really nice aluminum

This might interest Paul. There is a fiberfab on ebay with no reserve. NIce project car maybe for the racer that he is intending to build.  Link here:

Troy can you comment on the Super Wide body ride?  I'm split between the 'look' and the performance. Having never owned one of these cars before I have to be very careful. Definitely not doing the traditional speedster look. My quote is:

"To be Wide or Super Wide?"

Thanks all for the valuable input.

You really need to drive your friends car and decide for yourself, but the ride in a regular body car is a little better, not quite as stiff.

I've said about everything I can in this thread.  I'm backing out of it.

I just finished a 3 year long ugly divorce so i dont have to give a flying F$&#K what her input is!  Happy car time!  My last 2 cars were very firm suspension cars and broke your rear end but loved every minute of it.  Full Kevlar seats and 9 hours from maryland to chicago was great!

Does this help you to visualize the cuts. Much easier than slicing the whole body even if that would be a neet job to contemplate and I would love to see someone widen this car 6 inches fully that would be a real hoot. I would even go for at least two three more inches as well to the interior.

As we age we are getting wider that might be a solution.
