I am currently building a speedster kit, however the only reference material that I have is the CMC build manual that is available on this site. I am getting on pretty well with it, but am a little confused about fitting the door catches.

I am using the door catches from the doner Bug. The build manual says cut the top half of the u shaped peice on the latch, which I have done. It then goes on to show a release arm and a release rod, however it does not give any info about these other than a drawing.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the release rod and what material they are made from ?

If i can get the sizes etc, I may be able to make them myself.

regards

Steve,
The release rod is a metal tube about 3/8" in diamter. It has a 2 very specific bends in it. It has a hole in the bottom of it which a bolt goes through the bottom of the door and through the tube. It uses this bolt as the pivot point. The release arm that attaches to the handle is just a section of small threaded rod.
I am really poor at describing stuff like this but I remember the process very well since I just did it a few months ago. Starting from the bottom of the door, on the catch side, the steel rod rises up to the catch. There is a slit in the top of that tube that the latch slides into (right where you cut off that section). The threaded rod that comes off the exterior handle goes through a hole in that tube and is adjustable by two nylon loc nuts. When you push in the outter door button it tilts that rod inward on its lower pivot point and releases the latch.
The line that attaches to the interior handle is a section of what I think they call piano wire. It is a small diameter wire that is still.
