So Im finally ready to fix my grill, removing the fake 6 stacks the PO installed for some reason. I got my new grill thanks to Ted, and I'm looking at installing it. However, the single carb is really tall and filter extends just beyond the grill. Looks like the PO had to grind a bit off the grille and cut away the rain cover for the weber to fit. Do I have any options or should I just grind off some of the new grill as the PO did so it can fit?

You can make it fit with the single Weber carb. I had one on my 1915 and also now with my Soob. There are a couple of "thickness' " of that filter available. I think mine is one and three quarter inches high. Some gentle mods to the deck lid assy will clear it. The 32/36 carb is a dream to drive with....adjust it once and forget it. As my buddy Ron used to say, don't piss your pants running around changing things, just make it work !

I had some help, but she's too tired to come over right now.........

Is the filter inside the cabin?Or did you cut a hole in the cabin floor and the filter is drawing fresh outside air like a cold-air set-up?

I think the least expensive way to go (and least amount of work) would be the Red Line air cleaner extension.

Then, I'd cover the bottom of the grill opening with something, just in case you're caught in a rainstorm.

I wouldn't get fancy with the air filter-just mount it to the fan shroud.  A cone filter would work fine.

By the way, how does the engine run with the center mounted carb?  I've heard they're a bitch to tune properly.

If your car is only running so-so this may be a good time to go with a set of dual carbs.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do like the Red Line option, unfortunately it still doesn't give me the clearance I need for the new grill to fit without modification (needs to be under 2"). So I'm just going to grind out the grill a bit as the PO did and run with my current setup. Now on to finding the deck lid release cable and getting ball joints replaced.

I didn't add any further ventilation other than the stock engine bay grille.......Its not any different  to the stock KG setup.

On grinding the grille, I had to do some clearance on the underside of the grille  with the pancake filter I was using originally.
