Tom---dammit---we all know you never asked for any money. Reading the posts shows that. I offered to send a few dollars because I'm not a competent wrench. Were I able I'd join the folks who will be there to do the actual work. This is my way of helping out and that
was my intent ---get it?? We can't all be so smart and have the ability to solve the many problems so refusing a few $$ on your part deoprives me and many others of participating.

So give me the damned mailing address, so like the Shake and Bake ad I can say "and I helped!" I know it won't go to waste and frankly I don't care what happens to it---I just want to do what I can in my way
to help. (Last offer!)----Jack

Vince - you're just tryin to stir us up again . . . ain't ya

I was gonna ask which one was Gerd? ;-) . . . But I already knew what he looked like from some of "Moose P's" pics. Am I correct it is pronounce Jered?

I have no beef with anyone on this site. Not even Gerd. He is passionate about his car and his builder and I respect that. I just do not share the same experience.

Sorry Jack, I did post it on the other thread yesterday. I can be a gracious recipient. And I do like beer. ;-)

You guys are over the top. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it all.
Aww, dang. I step out for a couple days and look what happens!

I have to throw this out there, just 'cuz. This whole "Save the Coupe" thing is probably the result of egg-sammich conversations at Carlisle. I asked Tom how he was fairing, and he said he had been better. It's life like that.
We didn't have any conversations about good and evil, just about what I could maybe do to get him to hang onto the coupe without being unduly frustrated.
There was a time -- as I'm sure you all remember -- when I wanted to throw the Hoopty away. When I was at my most miserable, things like fuses, lights, door handles and even a little bag of rivets started showing up in my mailbox. I can empathize with his situation, but I offered to hold the flashlight and help him find his way out of the catacombs.
It's just a reflection of how inherently positive Volkswagen folks are that the idea of helping Tom out has grown wings. It's a hobby, and we're hobbyists. I'd like to think we'd help anyone else out in the same pickle.
I've had a few conversations with Tom since the idea first started to percolate. I think he's (I'm putting words in his mouth) come to realize that he's at the point where the car is truly his problem, warranty issues aside, and he's looking forward now and not backward. I remember the same milestone; there have been a whole lot more frustrating moments since, but more smiles than pain.
I hope the same is true for Tom.

Tom -- I'll be happy to do sheet metal and help my darling Teresa chase your electrical gremlins. I'm off the grid from Friday of this week through the sixth of July with my family in St. Louis, but we'll be checking the Save the Coupe schedule via e-mail. Here's what we can do for you, if you want:

Jim,
I'm still a trying to "translate" the warm and fuzzy message Gerd just posted. I think he's trying to say he likes me and wants to be my friend but the rat poison thing has still got me a little stumped. I mean, I get the part where he wishes me, my wife and kids a great time in Disney, that's obvious. That Gerd, he's a pisser!
Don't ever change Gerd. You're a kooky, crazy guy! Three cheers for our newest bestest buddy GERD! Yeah!
I do not want to start this thread back up, but I do want to thank some folks.

A special thanks to Gerd, Eddy K, Terry , & Jack, for their generosity. It was both unnecessary and much appreciated.

The same goes for Cory, Danny, Wild Bill, Kelly, Alan, Rocky, Gordon, Chris, BERT, TC, Al Shapiro, MUSBJIM, and a long list of other folks who have volunteered time, advice, counsel, and expertise.

It shows the kind of people that frequent this forum are those that renew faith in humanity. Even those that disagree are joined in a common love of this hobby and a willingness to help others in need.

If I missed anyone, it was certainly not intentional. I thank you all.

I will report a recent development - for whatever reason - JPS has shown a renewed willingness to work out an amicable resolution. We'll see. If any of you played a part in resurrecting a more reasonable John Steele, I thank you for that as well.
Tom, you ignorant slut...the "whatever reason" for Steele's turn around is that I created a little doll, which wasn't easy considering the size of John's huge head, and I started twisting some of it's vital parts, if you get my drift, once again, not easy considering it's tiny size....He should be more responsive in the future......
No need for thanks, I love playing with dolls....
