Very nice ivory shifter knob!

Eric,
Any problems with mounting it? Trigger still works OK?
I've been looking for a new knob but all of the knobs I've looked at will not allow the "trigger shaft" to move.

The trigger works fine. It doesn't have the overhang like the original, but it looks and works great. I did not use a lock nut.

I'm not hiding anything. My shifter works a hell of a lot better than the original. I like to drive this puppy. I used a spacer in my beetle for years, but the trigger shifter kicks a** on that method. To me this car is a Beetle with a great body.

I did the stock shifter for its "original" appearance, but for the same reason I have an IRS pan- I have an EMPI "Hurst" shifter (albeit with a leather boot) now. It just works better. Maybe someday I'll have $5K for a nice Porsche 5 speed, but until then- I guess my shifter will look like a refugee from a '68 Camaro.

FYI....

I fired off a drawing to flameball.com showing the ball counterbored to fit an EMPI trigger shifter and asked them if it was feasible.

Just installed my trigger shifter....WOW! What a difference!!

I have had problems finding second with the Empi/Hurst Shifter. I found the cure. I drove around with a 13 mm wrench for a day and found the best placement is to slide the shifter forward a little.

drawing is too light for me to make out any dimensions, but if you decide to
order one just make sure that you give me the size of the counter bore and

How does the trigger type shifter work better???? I personally liket he old ivory shifter, looks very vintage.

The Empi/Hurst Style shifter uses a similar mechanism as the T-handle shifters but looks a little better. The idea is to change the fulcrum of the lever to require less movement of the handle. The shifting is very positive and requires very little movement.

An aluminum spacer is available to shorten the throw as well(If you prefer the stock shifter). I have used the spacer before. It works as expected(with a little adjustment).
