Sorry for how remedial this might be...

I have a relatively new VS, and the turn signal flashers stopped flashing. The directional lights light up, but don't flash.

So I looked under the dash for that little square relay-type box with all of the plugs on it so I could take it to the auto parts store... and I can't find it. I found the one for the headlight highbeams.

Can anyone help me with what I might be looking for and where to find it? Specific VS experience woud be great.

Many thanks,
Gerry

..usually the seedier part of town, raincoat, crumpled brown bag in hand...sorry, couldn't resist.
I don't mean to unsupportive on two counts but Vintage wiring is too lightweight. Go in with heavier gauge wires, add a few breakers, or whatever they are called, and don't be surprised if you have a weak switch as well.

Gerry:

Just to give you another useless post.......you're on the right track in looking for the flasher, but in the VS's I've worked on, I've never had to deal with the directional flasher, so don't know where it's at. If the lights are lighting when the lever is moved but they don't flash, then chances are the wiring is OK (heck, it's the same wiring as is used on a lot of street rods, too!) but the flasher unit has had it. Look around either under the dash or out under the hood for a small flasher can - should be about 1-1/4" in diameter and 1-1/2" high, either silver or blue colored. Usually has three connector tabs on it and can be replaced with a "universal flasher unit" from Autozone or Advanced or whomever.

Thanks, guys.

The switch in the column seems to work. All 4 indicators (r/l/f/r) are bright. Just no blink. I am sure it's the flasher can thingy you're talking about (I had this problem on another car years ago) but I can't find the darn thing.

Has anyone with a VS seen one? Any more specific ideas where to look?

Many thanks,

G
I don't have a vintage, (we have a spyder anyway) but if the flasher unit is not under the dash and not directly associated with the fuse box, I would suggest looking though the trunk compartment. If it were my build I'd have put it under the dash, by the fusebox and lastly in the trunk as space etc., had permitted.

I would bet you lunch it is the flasher unit. The one that came with our car was DOA. When you activated the turn signal, the lights would flash for a few seconds and then go on solid. I pulled it out, took it to the auto parts store and bought the best heavy duty one I could find simply because it was clearly the best quality. Set me back about $5 and had no problems since.

Of course, you still gotta FIND yours!

Fixed it! Against common wisdom, it was the flasher can. I checked all of the wiring and it was fine. I found the can (finally) located on top of the steering column, extracted it (that spaceage adhesive is something else) and replaced it for $2.50.

Pictures below for future reference.
