Does anybody have a photo of the foam seal that goes with the tins in place in a VS. I have the strip in the "H" shape with one side of the strip sealed, the other side porous. I believe the sealed side goes down as it is most heat resistant. I need to see where it fits.

Thanks in advance!

Bob

Yeah, that is the side with the foam "cells" sealed making it shinier than the open cell side. If I recall correctly, the strip goes between the fiberglass panels and the actual engine tins across the back, filling a gap between the two. I also think there is a strip tucked along the very back of the engine compartment.

Should have taken my on pics before I tore it all out.

Here's a couple photos from my car. I did not have a piece at the very back of the engine when I got my car and I didn't put one in there when I changed it out for a new one.

Because of you Pnahandle Bob I discovered my "710" cap had come off and was laying along the tins, you can see it in the lower left corner of photo three. It must not have been tightly fastened when the new oil filler was put in. Luckily I've only driven with it like that once and very little oil blew out. You can see the oil spray on the side of the engine bay and on the carburetor in the third photo also.

We cut holes in the firewall for fresh air intake, but bug owners don't have that option, as the other side of the firewall is the passenger compartment. Guys have left the bellhousing breastplate off for air intake with no ill effects. The only caveat is you have to wary of road debris being swept up and plugging the fan. Al

PS- Is it Alan Merklin that leaves about an inch between the firewall and breastplate for fresh air access?
