Thanks for all the thoughts.

I'm planning on driving my IM down to Ontario this summer to put into storage until I make the big move...hopefully this fall. Its a 5,300 km trip and if you've ever driven the TransCanada across the top of the big lakes you know what I mean when I say I want extra lighting. (up here doesn't matter as it doesn't get dark)

Its a trip I've made many times in my old Mercedes but that old 300SD would just run forever (still does...its in Ontario now and I use it when visiting). Always felt fairly safe at night in the Benz but I'm really feeling kind of timid in the IM. The TransCanada is know for the big rigs just barreling through in the evening a night. Its quite scarey in any vehicle.
I thought they took that show off the air but ai gather not. Never seen it although I do know Alex who I think I heard is on the show regularly.

He's quite the character in real life. I should watch the show some day to see how they portray him. He and his wife have a gaggle of kids and his lot is basically a used car lot (closer to a salvage yard).
Semi-retirement. Lifestyle change mainly. Life's just too short to work everyday. Rather take a reduced pension now (I'll be 53) than wait and perhaps not enjoy any of it. Can always supplement it with contract work or even work at Home Depot or something like that.

Besides, minus 34 when I got up this morning. This past winter's been a b__ch. Been very cold and with fuel prices where they are, I know folks who have been paying $1,800 a month to heat their houses. That's a decent mortgage payment isn't it?
Brian - Good for you in keeping your lifestyle/location in perspective (health/weather/enjoying life). More power to you in your relocation goal. Although there's always compromise in re-locating (location/neighborhood/traffic/cost-of-living, etc.) I hope it all works out for the better for you & the family.

BTW - $1,800/mo MIGHT get you a 1-bedroom apartment rental here in SoCal! It's crazy!

Peace - Out!
The Yellowknives are the local Dogrib Dene aboriginal people. I believe that the name comes from them and not from the gold that was mined here in the city up to about mid-1990's when it ran out and diamonds were found. Now the city likes to call itself the North American Diamond Capital....although no mines are in the city and the producing mines are a couple hundred miles away.
