After a very long wait, Kirk just sent me my replacement VS Tach that I now can't use: during the Summer I had found an early 912 green faced VDO tach ( $100 used )and installed it. To make it fit, I had to enlrge the dash hole slightly, but now the orig VS Tach is too small for the enlarged hole, so I'm sticking with the 912 unit.
Make me an offer: it's brand new and the latest one / never installed. Free shipping in cont US.

Jack, they sent it to me no charge after a long wait ( Kirk is super like that for his customers..)to replace the defective Tach in my VS. Earlier this year I gave up hope of ever getting the replacement and hated looking at the dead tach, so started looking for the early 912 unit. Now that Kirk finally got them in and sent it along, unfortunately, the VS tach doesn't fit my car after I enlarged the dash hole for the 912 tach. I suppose I could keep it just as a "spare part" to match the other two VS gauges ( Speedo & Combo guages ), but really don't see the need. Maybe someone else with a dead VS tach could use it... Up til now I guess they've been impossible to get ( per Kirk and my long delay ), & we all know the earlier Chinese VS tachs were prone to fail...

Doug - sorry for thread drift -

I taken the bezel rings off and put back on - without making them look too knarled. I did this to replace the scratched plastic lenses with glass ones and clean the gauge face. That takes hour or two. Putting the needle back on (after switching faces) would appear to be the tricky piece - as you don't want to hit 60 MPG before the needle comes off the peg. I think TC has done it - perhaps he can chime in. I used this:

FYI: Paul just let me know that the "new" tach I recently got from Kirk ( and sold to Paul for low $'s as I couldn't use it... ) died after just 300 miles in his Thunder Ranch car....so much for quality on Kirk's latest tach shipment. Very frustrating...
It seems like a "hit or miss" thing on the internal tach Chinese electricals. My orig early 912 VDO tach I found & installed still works, so I'm stickin' with it...and besides, I had to make the dash hole bigger to accept the 912 tach.
