At first I thought it was the black IM from TX that sold recently on EBAY, but that one

had a brown interior.  Can't recall the year, maybe a few years older than your car.

I love taking it to car shows it gets great looks.  The black and red comboi as well as the impeccable detail build makes it stand out. I'm not actively marketing it but it is still for sale. Are you interested?  The car is in Texas and you?

Your car is very appealing. Being new to the madness, I'm not sure how the top works.  Is it stored in the trunk? Attached?  Unfortunately, I live in a climate where the top would be up often!  Thanks.

This is not my car, but the top is on a frame that simply folds down, and then is covered by the half tonneau.  Once up, tops on these cars are fairly weather proof, but they are convertibles.

And this car has roll up windows........which I consider a desirable feature, especially if the climate where you live requires the top to be up often.

Yes it is I have been slow to market it as I'm having so much fun with it.  I took it to a car show today and it got lots of great looks. The car is in Dallas!

Mike, curious did you anticipate to keep this car a long time?  That sure is alot of money for a kit car, you'll never get that money back. I love the kit cars, i guess it's about preference all around.  When i got my speedster in 2004 i customized alot of the car to look period correct and original and lost money by doing it, however, i did not anticipate to sell it either but i had to.  IF i had to do it again, i would find a builder that customizes everything you ask for and get that up front, they build alot of that in to the price, which can be cheaper. I like the car man you did well.

I'm presently talking with Beck about building a car for me but I do keep coming back to Intermeccanica cars.   Is the premium really worth it....is your car still available?  If so could you send me some more info?

 

Speaking from experience, Intermeccanicas are very good cars, and they are not 'kit cars'.  They are hand built by a crew of good guys in a small shop in Vancouver, and Henry oversees each build.

 

If you can get a good deal on a used one as opposed to a new one, save yourself $20,000 and buy it.  However, if you are set on creating your own dream car, then order a new one.

 

I don't want to start old arguments about which speedster replica is 'the best', but you can't go wrong with an Intermeccanica.  With roll up windows and a tight fitting top, they can be very weather tight, and with the right mechanical set up, they can be driven pretty well anywhere.

 

My two cents worth (actually, a little more than that).

I very much appreciate your feedback....been looking for a good used IM at a good price with no luck and therefor considering the Beck new build (my option #2).  Any leads or additional advice is surely needed. 

I also kept coming back to intermeccanica when I was searching for my first speedster.  I had a blast with mine and then sold It for  heftyprofit....Now on the second go round I am building one custom with Henry.  I can't agree more that these  IM's are not kit cars..... The quality and craftsmanship is unmatched in my opinion.....some may think its nuts to spend the dough on a new one, but I plan to keep it long term and they do hold their value very well... Good luck and my final answer is YES, they are worth the premium......

If you really want to cut costs and get a hand built custom car where you don't have to pay 50k for go to carreracoachwerks in el cajon. You will never get your money back . Intermeccanica is a kit car Just like the others Just different chassy. I would never spend 50k for a kit car . You throwing money away

l purchased my '05 IM for 45K and sold it two years later for the same price in 24 hours.  IM's retain their value extremely well.  Now I'm back in the hunt!

Correction, Carrera Coachwerks is NOT owned by Thunder Ranch.  CCW purchased all the assets of TR as well as made good on a lot of TR's legacies that left a lot of folks in the lurch.  I challenge any of the sh#t-talkers to come by and see for yourselves.  We have pushed out over 15 cars in 8 weeks, something Tom McBurnie could never have done, nor could most of the competitors in the space (exception to VS).  

Why build a new one when you can

I don't consider Vintage, JPS, Beck or Intermeccanica as 'kit cars', no more than was Colin Chapman's Lotus Elan.

 

The nice thing about these cars, though, is that you can order a bespoke one.

 

 

Based on what I have read on this site and in the conversations I have had with each builder when i was researching which builder to go with, most quality Speedster builders require anywhere from a month to 6 months and some even up to a year to build a car.

 

 If a manufacturer can build two cars per week, thats very very fast.....kinda scary fast in my opinion.....
