Beautiful example of the well made Vintage Speedster. Local one owner car that has only 3107 miles since new. Previous owner passed away and car has sat for last several years in widow's garage. Built in 2001 and titled as a 1972 VW so historic plate eligible. Car came equipped with the highest option, 2110 CC engine that produces over 100 HP and makes the car pretty darn fast. Also has front Willwood disc brakes with cross drilled rotors along with Carrera body work and badging. Body is beautifully straight and paint is nearly perfect with only a couple minor nicks and chips. Interior is also as new with leather seats and real nice Pioneer CD stereo system that sounds fantastic. All gauges, lights, signals and wipers work as they should plus car comes with brand new soft top, full tonneau cover, side curtains, both front and rear full bumpers plus steel grated headlight covers. Car runs and drives like a 3000 mile car should with everything performing superbly and is simply a blast to drive. Overall a highly optioned car that is ready for some serious top down fun. If you have any additional questions please feel free to email me at Brian@classicmotorsdc.com or give me a call on my cell (240)350-8775. Asking price on the vehicle is $24,900 obo.

Best Regards,

Brian

Nice looking car Brian.

When you say "well made Vintage Speedster" are you saying it was built by Vintage Speedsters in Hawaiian Gardens California?  It has some features that are a little unusual for a Vintage Speedsters built car, but maybe that is because it was built in 2oo1.

  • the dash material extends all the way to the edges of the dash
  • it has a VIN plate on the dash
  • trunk carpet is not the typical Vintage Speedsters carpet installation
  • door panels and topper not the standard for Vintage Speedsters
  • no cork screw alternator wire
  • no torsion bar access hole circle on rocker panels in front of rear wheels

I'm not saying that it isn't a Vintage Speedsters built car, but it isn't uncommon that 2nd owners were misinformed about the history of a car.  Did you receive any documentation with the car?

Again.  Nice looking car.

Judging by the wear on the pedal pads that car has a lot more than 3K miles. Troy did you notice the speedo is on the correct side. Does anyone do that with a pan based car? I doubt that is a VS.  It also seems odd an engine that size would have those little knock off carbs. If you going to go to the trouble to put the speedo on the correct side why no do the same with the ignition switch?

The Speedster Replica has a 2110cc engine and it is definitely a 3k original mile car. Before I buy any vehicles I have my mechanics give the vehicles really thorough pre purchase inspections. If any of you fella's are really interested in buying the car you are more than welcome to stop by our dealership and have a look for yourself, or you can even send a car inspector to have it looked at in our shop.

Kind Regards,

Brian

CM I hope you understand this is not a forum for selling cars. We have a classified section that you should have posted in. The majority of members are OWNERS. You will find some folks trolling for information before they join the madness. If you were not expecting to find people critiquing your car you should not have posted it on this site.

Yes I do understand that people will troll, but before you troll please make sure you have your facts straight before making incorrect statements or by "guessing". And just so you know I did post it in the Classified-Sale/Wanted section my friend. I dont mind the critiquing, but what do you get out of it if you are not buying in the first place? Just saying.

Brian,

That's what I thought too...

You are right, I have absolutely no interest in purchasing this car. That said, you did offer it to the masses here, and all Majorkahuna and I were pointing out something not normally done with these engines. Usually when someone builds an aircooled VW that big they're going after a fair bit more power than that engine is putting out; with the right heads, carbs and cam it would rev to 6,000rpm (145-150hp) with power, have the same torque it does now and still be a great, reliable (and economical when your foot's not constantly in it) street/highway cruiser.

I'm guessing that along with the smaller single-barrel carbs, the engine probably has stock valve heads (not ported- the carbs don't flow enough to make the additional expenditure worthwhile) and a mild cam that lets it rev to 5,000rpm TOPS. I'm sure it's a real stump puller (we seem to be seeing a fair number of these lately!), which is fine, but whoever built it could have made the same or more hp and almost as much torque with a 1915 (a little smaller, but cheaper and easier to build with a stock stroke crankshaft). I would recommend (to any one who is interested in this car) that the oil pump be pulled to find out what camshaft is in it (since I'm guessing you can't provide this information, otherwise it would have been in your initial post) and some ported 40x35mm heads and 40mm Webers, HPMX's or Del's be put on it (exhaust may have to be upgraded to 1 1/2" as well) for it to come any where near it's potential.

It's a great looking, and probably very fun to drive car. You sell cars, and you've obviously tried to show it in it's "best light", and I understand that; it's what you do. What we're doing is advising our newest members (some of who may be considering this car) how to make it the best it can be. If you know more details, then please share them. Remember though, anything posted here for sale (especially by a dealer) is going to get critiqued; better bring your A game...Al

To CM, I purchased my speedster 4 weeks ago from this site. I used the site to educate myself and depended totally on the advise and comments they, the members, made to guide me. The  members were out to help and protect me a newbie with their knowledge and the years of experience they have. Some called me at home with offers of viewing cars for me in Calif and Pa.  Do I trust my brothers out to teach and advise or worry about a dealer that may not have my interests as primary. Please don't take this wrong but we are out to protect each other. You maybe a stand up guy, but trust takes some time. I'm just saying....

You see Brian? What Craig isn't telling you is when he was first lurking about and asking questions as a non member nobody was responding to him. In fact people were ridiculing him almost to a point of persecution and then he did it! He became a premium member. Light shone upon him, members stopped the taunting and began taking him into this brotherly fold, helping in every aspect of car and accessory selection.

Read his post again Brian. You will find testament upon testament of our brothers here. We look to see you on here soon with that supporting member smiley . Don't cheap it out now Brian. You have found us, now is the time to become one of us... my brother!

I'm sorry but that clutch pedal rubber pad has more like 30k miles on it --- NOT 3k. Since CarFax can't track pre-17 digit VIN cars are you relying on the repro 356 speedometer for "actual" mileage.  These speedo are notorious for failing (many are made in China with dubious quality).  I think if you dig in receipts you'll find the speedo was replaced in last few years. Like others said VS puts the speedo to the left of the tach so they can use a standard beetle/T1 cable.  A longer cable from a different model VW is needed to place it to left.  That also is not a original VW VIN plate which is affixed to '72 VWs - its obviously home made with double stamping of numbers - does it match the official one in rear of center tunnel just ahead of the shift coupler? Original VW one has raised not stamped digits (see below)

Although I may not be in market today (would change if a nice SAS Subbie or IM Roadster popped up near by) - I have referred cars to others - so you never know who you buyer might be or how he got to you.

Hope to see Classic Motors DC become an affiliate sponsoring member.  Coming from Springfield VA I know there is room for a local reseller of Speedster/Sypder replicas.

It is interesting isn't it Carl.  Brian has posted several times now with no reference to my original post.
