Paul - I've been in that financial situation so I can relate with you on how tough it is and an absolute bummer to sell the Speedster!! You do what you have to do, but I hope everything works out. Glad I had a chance to meet you at Carlisle. If you're ever on the West Coast again (SoCal) you have to give me a holler so we can hook-up.
The Architect sitting next to me is angry with me. She feels I have come too far, to much blood, sweat and tears to not get to spend an entire summer with the speedster. I think it has much to do with her getting rides to/from the office in it.
Jim, I will Definatley take you up on your offer. Had a great time meeting everyone at Carlisle. The reason I left a day early... I wanted to get out on the road and drive this speedster. Couldnt bare to stand there and watch it sit.

Paul, sorry sorry to hear of this. Though we did talk of the possibility at Carlisle, remember...there will be more cars!
Marty---what a wonderful you tube flick of the PCH in a Speedster!!
How I miss living out there. I drove a grea 260Z , Mulholland to the PCH and to 96th sterrt near LAX. I was National Sales Manager for Neutrogena then. A lovely life, everything about it. We get out there occasionally now and we'll drive that stretch during Morrow Bay next spring. Oh Yeah!---Jack
Jack,
Thats Paul in his thunder ranch from last year. He is the one who is selling.

I will consider unreasonbable offers...
I'll make you an unreasonable offer. Through the girl yhe sale...
Are you parking it in the German car area in Schenley Park? I've lived in Pittsburgh for 4 years, and this is the first time I'll be able to see the race. I'm pretty excited. I hope I can come check out your car. I don't think I've knowingly seen a Thunder Ranch up close. Good luck with the sale.
Adam,
This is my 6th consecutive year attending the Vintage Grand Prix. It is such a great weekend to be in the 'Burgh. Last year there was a 550 in the line up. Was dissapointed to see he was not pushing it around the track. Couple slow laps at the back of the field than he pulled off to stand next to the car in his racing kit. I guess thats so he can tell people he races his 550. I tried to speak with him, was less than friendly, maybe thats why I feel the need to call him out as a poser.
The Speedster will be in the German Cars section of the show on Saturday. Give me a call if I am not by the car (I wont be), would be great to say hello.

Adam,
Were you able to get to the Vintage Grand Prix this past weekend? Did you see the car?

Paul, that car looks so nice, I am sorry you have had some disappointments with it.
Will,
Thank you. The car is finally solid. Most of the frustration I encountered was trying to deal with the builder more so than the problems with the car. I handled the car issues... cant do a damn thing about the issues over at the shop.

Glad and sad to hear you finally got it sold Paul. Did you get what you were looking for with the sale price?
Remember, it's just a car. Your next speedster will be better because of the experience you had with this one. Mine is always available if you need a fix. That is if I ever get it back together. :(

Mickey,
"Finally Solid", not "Finally Sold". Still on the market. I have put 1500 miles on it in the past 3 weeks... mainly just running around on the weekends. I got alot of attention in it this weekend at Dewey Beach. Not sure if it was the speedster or the girl in the Bikini riding shotgun. fun stuff!

Man, getting old with $hitty eyes sucks!
Oh well, I'd like to say bummer you didn't sell the car but it sounds like you're getting good use of it. I'm sure they were all looking at the car. ;)
Oh, and the next time you post about a chick in a bikini in your speedster and don't put up pics then spare us the story, it's just not the same. ;)

Paul,
With the Cali Plates is it still registered in CA? Is it SB100?

Thom,
Yes, It is Registered in California as a 1969 VW Beetle. The Original VIN is clearly visible just forward of the rear bulkhead betweeen the seats. Thunder Ranch uses an IRS rear suspension (with VIN stamped on tunnel) and welds it up to their steel tube frame. I have pictures if youd like to see.

I followed this car in Carlisle and it is a beaut! Good luck...
Thanks Bill!
I really miss my Speedster and thought the 550 would cover it, but NOPE.
Maybe the fact that my dad bought one new in 1957 as a 1958 model from Hoffman in NYC and picked it up at the docks and drove it home to MI!

Bill, Thanks for the comment. I have never seen this car from that perspective. Since the day I first slid behind the wheel I have said The one thing I hate about driving it is I dont get to see it going down the road.
Thom, the only reason I am selling this car is to get out from under the payment. Architects arent doing so good in this economy. That being said, my father has always been into the 550's. I am wondering what we may be able to work out. Who built your car? It has a great look. A wide 5 conversion would really set it off, just my opinion. I like the pegasus logo.

Thom,
This is Paul's For Sale listing.
It seems a little rude to dump your lengthy for sale message into his for sale thread.
It would be nicer to start your own.

I think Thom's post was in answer to Paul's questions about his Spyder, and the possibility of a three way trade deal of some sort.

Thom,
I apologize to you.
I took a look at the thread again and see that I misunderstood what was happening.
Whenever I look at this thread what I am mostly thinking about is the plight of a fellow architect these days. I have just about given up calling myself one.
I hate to see Paul being forced to give up a car he worked so hard to get the way he wanted it. I went through a similar experience with my Ferrari 308 replica. I had to watch it leave on a truck.
How was the Michigan you remember?

Accepted, Thank you very much!
Thom.
Back to Car: Is TR the only fabricator with the more realistic back seat area? I know Rustytubs has a fiberglass molded off of a real one you can add to a VS, JPS etc. That looks awesome.
