Went to our local Cars and Coffee today and look what parked next to us.
Got me thinking again about how much more people react to the Speedy's styling today than they did in the fifties when they were often seen as just funny, little foreign cars. The 'bath tub' nickname wasn't exactly a compliment at the time.
Could it be that there were still plenty of cars from the forties still on the road whose styling cues were often similar to the Porsche, so no one took much notice of the Speedster
This late forties Ford woody may not have won many styling awards, but look how close some elements are to the Speedy - fender shape, use of chrome fender trim, headlight placement, curved hood, even wheel treatment. If the woody front end hadn't needed a grill for cooling, it may have looked even closer to the Speedy.
