Yeah, there’s that. Chicago is food heaven, no doubt.

Im was an E coast guy till 68,got to CA flying home fromNam (72) and have been back East rarely since,,went to Navy boot camp Great Lakes. Il, what a hellhole in hot, humid July
@Robert M posted:Don't fret everyone, IIRC, Ryan originally hails from the New York area or somewhere else near the East Coast as you call it. He was a NorCal transplant and now he's back to his original-ish stomping grounds.
The East Coast and the Midwest are NOT the same. But otherwise, I agree with you. Ryan will do just fine wherever he is.

I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray

California dreamin'
On such a winter's day

Missed it by thaaaaaaaaat much. (Don Adams aka Maxwell Smart voice please for accuracy)
I was going from memory and as of late it hasn't always been right on. I knew he hailed from somewhere over on the other side of the map. I thought it was NY, which would have been a correct East Coast reference but alas, it was Chicago, so as you pointed out, the Midwest.
Let's put down the cone of silence, OK? LOL!
Where in Chicago suburbia? I grew up in Manhattan then got married and lived in Mokena for 15 years. Currently in the hell known as traverse city Michigan. Need to move somewhere warm and has more than one store to shop at without camouflage and duck blinds for sale.
Jeff
It sounds like Farm and Fleet is out for you then, Jeff.
That's what we have up here....
West Virginia low summer humidity, rarely gets above 88 degrees in the summer and as a special bonus you can enjoy approx. 200 " of snow annually.....in my case a guy comes and plows - shovels as I sip my morning coffee~
@Jeff Hicks posted:That's what we have up here....
You say that like it's a bad thing. I live a half mile from F&F and I'm in there at least 3x/ wk.
.
Thanks for the tip about F&F, Stan.
It turns out you can order online and they'll ship. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a heated pet bowl around here.
.
I'll just pick one up for you when I'm in there tomorrow, Mitch. Need any reload shot for your 12 ga.?
.
Thanks, Stan, but I'm good.
Are the reloads in 'Home Basics' or 'Home Improvement' ?
.
F&f has stuff but I can only stay a few minutes. All the guns and country music makes my skin crawl.
Jeff
You all realize that Carhart clothing is the Hawaiian shirt of the Midwest?

They would absolutely be in "Home Basics". Around here, that's kind of a silly question.
If you don't need any shot, I assume you're good on powder and cartridges as well.
You may want to switch your barrel out and pick up some deer slugs now though (before they sell out). The November shotgun season is this weekend, and every mother's son already has their tree-stand up and has a trail-cam uploading activity via cell link.
Right-hand man Brad has had his buck picked out for weeks - it's a nice one too. We'll see if the does being in heat are enough to run him under the blind this weekend, with all the activity. If not, he'll take him with a compound bow - he's got a tag for that, too.
I do refrigeration work at one of the big packing houses in Peoria and can probably get you cut in line for a spot for processing, if you let me know right now.
I like spicy sticks, if you're planning on sharing.

I can do a pretty good moose call. What's a deer sound like ? ...
.
Here in semi-suburban California, we don't need artifice or electronics to find deer. They're in our front yard most mornings, eating our foliage and standing their ground.
We have to chase them away, but they're usually back in an hour. Their numbers are increasing — I've seen a herd of ten in the lot next door.
Unfortunately, discharging firearms is still illegal in the neighborhood, and the deer have apparently been so advised by their attorneys.
I am impressed, though, by their ability to strip the blossoms and leaves off a rose bush, while leaving the thorns behind — something I would be hard-pressed to do.

Well here it can be alligators. If you are near a pond or bayou, they will occasionally show up. Luckily they aren't herd animals. They have to reach 4' before they can be relocated. By that time the Chihuahua has become an hors' d'oeuvre.
This just in. 2+" of snowfall since midnight in the world's least likely HOA (Morton, USA), and it's still trickling down.
Ain't nobody speedstering this weekend, @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal.
PS: You need a new handle. "Ryan of the Northlands" or something. Or maybe (and I know it's wayyyyy out there), your first and last name?
5-8" of snow predicted up here. Back to welding I go....
68 and rain til' noon

How about 'North Shore Ryan' ?
Then, he could keep the same handle when he returns to Tahoe country, which is just a matter of time.

Oh, Mitchster, once he's gotten used to the steak burritos at El Burrito Loco, he'll never be back to fish tacos in the worker's paradise.
It's 20 minutes from Lake Barrington to the Crystal Lake El Burrito Loco location. @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal will pass 15 other places to buy a burrito the size of a newborn along the way, but none of them will compare to the giant steak burrito at El Burrito Loco (my happy place).
Again, you're welcome.
@Jeff Hicks I know you rail on Traverse City but I will say it is a great place to visit. Who does not love Cherry Republic or a good micro brew pub crawl. Guessing living in it 365 may change things up. Sounds like you need a move to AZ or some other place without the white stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. People from this part of the Glorious Peoples Republic vacation in Traverse City, or at least go up for the weekend.
It could be worse. Come on down, we'll go gaze in wonderment at Vanna Whitewall for fun.

You’re my new weatherman, @Stan Galat.
@Cory McCloskey certainly didn’t warn me of the snow in his report.
(No salt yet. I figure the driveway is fair game until the other cars start tracking it in. Until then, I using it as a little race course to enjoy 1/4 mile at a time.)

Thanks for the tip. Sadly the Crystal Lake location is an imposter (El Burrito Restaurant). It’s an hour to Aurora.
But if you zoom into that map, you’ll find me at 11:30, where the gray burbs meet the green country.
Speaking of green, @Sacto Mitch, the grass is green here. Can you believe it?! And water falls from the sky. They call it rain here. The lawns just eat it up. This does nothing for my Speedster trips. But I’m learning to use my wipers.

Tried to go to Tucson; nothing we wanted... then figured we'd be in the same situation as here: 2+ hours to go anywhere. The water situation is bad too.
Looked at Sarasota... then hurricanes, insurance prices tripled and house selection is poor, especially looking out of flood zones. They don't have garages down there a lot too!
Once you get past all the tourist traps up here you realize how limited you are. We have the only Target for 100 miles!! 1 Walmart, 1 Kohl's and even what they have up here is sketchy. Took 2 months for Meijer to get dark brown sugar!
We skip anything alcoholic.
Cherry Republic is okay.
Most of the food up here is pub grub. Haven't had an eggroll in 5 years. Actually got to go to Chipotle early this year as we don't have that up here either.
Great to wake up to gunshots to guys compensating.
And now we have wet snow so you can't even go for a walk without getting soaked.
Jeff

Daaaaang, Man - that's harsh! I'm about as close to one as you are.
You fellas have it rough I am ~15 mins to the Aurora location and have no less than 4 other great burrito places close by. @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal if you decide to venture south from the hamlet that is Barrington stop by Bien Trucha in downtown Geneva for amazing Mexican. Heck there is a little bit of everything in our downtown and they do a great Concours event in last August.
