I am new to this site but not new to speedsters. Been wanting to build one for the last 10 years and I now might finally have the time.

Can someone please provide a definitive answer on how to go about getting a (tube?) chassis for a new build? I looked at this a few years back and the same, general, problem remains today: no welding shop I can find wants to take on the liability of shortening a pan for me. They're happy to sell it, but you're on your own for the shortening. I've taken a look at some dune buggy web sites and I know they shorten their chassis (manx does it by 14"). So, I'm hoping someone can recommend me a chassis maker/company that can sell me a tube chassis that is already shortened by 11.81"

TIA

DS, where do you live? I know of a couple shops in the Washington, D.C., area that might be of some assistance. My car is a modified tube chassis with a couple original pieces left from its donors -- I can suggest a few things if you want some advice and aren't afraid to cut and weld.

Hey Jim, as Joe Pine would say..... this rocket scientist has found a chassis. He wants to be sure to get the VIN plate off before he sells the body. This is because he will be registering his Speedster as a, get this, 1977 VW sedan that the chassis and VIN are from. He will register it IN CALIFORNIA. HELLO! McFLY! 1976-1977 are the Type 1 Sedans that must pass SMOG in Kalifornia! Or maybe he has a Super? I'm just sayin'!
