Fr ont wheel well space

Seems like there is a lot of space (distance between outside of wheel and inside of the fender). At the moment it has old vw wheels on it. Are the aftermarket chrome wheels that you normally see on the Speedster wider??? It looks kind of funny now?

That's kinda how the car was designed back in the '40s. Wider tires will tend to rub unless you have flares.

Stock VW rims were only 4.5" wide (except some of the sport and maybe last model year) - most 914 and aftermarket chrome rims are 5.5". (Early VW were only 4"). You'll have room in front but tight in back so will have to watch clearance on wide tires. I used 1/4" spacers and 5.5" Porsche 914 Pedrini wheels on front and it fills wheel well out better. Some folks get the off set altered on even 5.5 rear rims.
