I don't know how many of you advised against the fiberglass header tape for a non-coated set of pipes, but I remember there were a few of you who said I'd be steaming my pipes and not to leave it on too long.
Y'all were right. I never intended to leave that stuff on all summer -- and should have taken it off as soon as the remote cooler was put in. But, me being me, I didn't. The header was made of several used header peices and one of those pieces took a sh*t on me last week, so it had to be repaired ASAP.
We did that over the last few days, and then painted it with that black woodstove paint for the short term.
It'll be ceramic coated in a couple weeks, and I won't be wrapping it up again, ever.
Good deal, for those of you who are local to Baltimore. The ceramic coating for my specific header is only going to cost me $150; $150 less than Jet-Hot's quote -- and I don't have to ship it or have it cleaned first.
The only drawback is that they hang onto it for a week. Next time it looks like rain for a few days at a stretch, I'll be dropping it off.

The pipes in my car have to be routed around the orange bar in the back. That thing is what holds the hinges for the rear section of the body, and it in turn is held in place by the bolt-holes in the engine.
Since I can't go through that guy, that whole slide-trombone-looking section in the middle where everything goes into the collector has to be where it is to avoid dragging it on the ground otherwise.
Trying to make all those turns with unmodified J pipes can't be done, so there are a huge number of little angles and cross-cut pipes that had to be connected up in just such a way. What a PITA; unavoidable, though.
That black paint is just ACE Hardware woodstove paint that's supposed to be good to about 1,200 degrees. We'll see if it works. It'll have to work better than what I used last time.
I also replaced the copper gaskets and Jim recommended we helicoil all eight bolt holes in my heads -- so we did that Friday afternoon, too.
