Not really sure what to think of it; with that windshield it's not a Speedster, and the bumpers and raised headlights suggest a newer (B? C?) car. It's neat in it's own right. The copy below the picture really doesn't tell all that much. I do like the distressed uphostery sample. Would like to know how they get 200hp out of a 356 engine, though...Al
The price is no where to be seen either. Cool aesthetics. Those French are no fans of red shag. No doubt.
That's a Roadster, which was made on the 356B (T5) body. It's basically the same as a 356A Convertible D, which is essentially a Speedster with a taller windshield and roll-up windows. The D came out in 1959.
As for this recreation (if that's what it is), I can't say that I am a fan of the screen they put all over the place (wheels, shifter boot, etc.).
More details here.
Apparently, a one-off custom show car from a French car restorer, built up from an actual 1960 Cab.
And the price? A mere 650,000 euros ($695,000).
Ah, to be in Paris, now that April is there.
Still nothing about the 200hp 356 engine. And yeah, Lane, now that I can see more of the screen (the link Mitch provided) I'm kinda wondering what they were thinking as well.
Must be a French dyno, eh? I'm not convinced it's a 356 engine, if the 200 HP claim is accurate. Even Dean Polopolous cuts down a flat six 911 to get those kind of numbers. Turbo, blower? Hard to fit, and hard to cool, for sure. You would think, at that asking price, a few engine shots would be included.
The pedals and the umbrella handle would suggest authentic blood lines. Likewise the price, as mentioned above. Interesting twist on finishing -- overall, an aesthetic gone a bit too far. But it is beautiful.
