Within the past year, the black 911 that Steve drove through the rolling French countryside at the beginning of "LeMans" came up for sale. Be nice to see it show up at this show. If I remember correctly, Steve brought it back from France (it was originally bought for the film by his production company) and it was sold to a friend of his who kept it up but never made a big deal of it - just a nice 911. It was then sold to someone else who knew the lineage but, again, never made a big deal of it. Wish I had the bucks to have bid on it - just to appreciate it, drive the thing daily and not make a big deal of it while wearing a sly grin.

The annual Friends of Steve McQueen car show will be held once again on Saturday June 4, 2011at Boy's Republic in Chino, Ca Just west of the 71 on Grand Ave.
I've gone to this show for the past couple of years. It's usually a "Great" show and supposidly, this year, cars and drivers from the movie Le Mans will be present

As a young pup I met McQueen at Max Balchowsky's old garage-LONG time ago. Kinda hero worship of his old TV show. Fast forward to the first "Friends" meet at Boy's Republic, met his son. Nice; leaned on the Bullitt and stared at the tweed jacket draped across the driver's seat. Good feelings about Mac-and his legacy of support for Boy's Republic... I encourage anyone to go-lotsa people who appreciate cars and lore there.
Just finished reading Steve's biography. He was a real racer with real talent on the track. His Holywood bosses wouldn't let him race so much, so he made the movie just so he could actually drive the good stuff!

And just coincidently, the movie, "Lemans" is on Turner Classic Movies tonight at 7:00 p.m. I'll save a cold one for you in the fridge.
