I am looking to replace my front and rear bumpers with chrome bumpers and over riders... can I use a stock bug or ghia bumper?

I'd be interested in this as well. I entertained the idea of "tweeking" the over-riders of VW bumpers to fit my speedster bumpers, but haven't gone past the "thinking" part. I assumed bug or ghia bumpers wouldn't have the same curve and contour of a speedster bumper?

I'm not sure but I doubt they'll be a direct fit. As Mickey says, the contours and lengths are bound to be different. TC would probably be the best qualified to answer that.

I used pre-68 VW euro overiders from cip1.
You have to cut them to fit.

Of COURSE you can fashion a set of over-riders and bars using VW components. Beetle or Ghia or the best of both.
Take a little time, measure carefully, make sure that the blades and disks are new and sharp. It's just metal.
Wrap all of the pieces in tape before hand to protect the chrome and give you an easy marking surface, etc. You just KNOW that it'll be a ball to do and EVERYONE will ask for the plans/procedural so keep good photos and a diary of the task. Maybe sell the video; when the movie's made I want Broderick Crawford to play me . . . .

Well, of course overriders can be modified; I was referring to the bumper units per se, you'd have to verify if they could be used.
You're talking about the whole bumper, not just the overriders, right? If so, the Beetle bumpers have a much smaller cross-section that the Speedster bumpers. Bight be worth an experiment if you're going for a custom or outlaw look, tho'.
Bug or Ghia bumpers are not wide enough for a 356. The rear of a bug is too round {the front also has the wrong curve). A Ghias' bumpers are pointed (not flat faced like a bug or 356).
FYI I have seen a bug ft bumper on the rear of a ghia and that works pretty good.

Despite taking extra time, measuring carefully, and making sure that the blades and disks are new and sharp. It's just metal and won't stretch THAT much, you'll still come up a little short in the front and the wrong curvature for the back.
Even if you wrap all of the pieces in tape before hand to protect the chrome and give you an easy marking surface, etc., there's no question that the result will be scuffed beyond usage. You just KNOW that it'll be a ball to try, and EVERYONE will ask for the plans/procedural, so keep good photos and a diary of the task, just to prove that it's impossible and save others the labor and expense of a futile chore.
Maybe sell the video to Stupidest Home Videos; when the movie's made I want Cindy Crawford to play me . . . .
