Yeah it's been awhile... dont yell at me.

I have the front dropped spindles in place as well as the stainless steel lines. With an adjustable front beam, this thing will be in the weeds....

Now to the rear....but wait..... ugggg.

There are no holes in the body....(pic 5)

I cant remove the spring plate (pic 7) and I cant pull out the torsion bars (pic 8). The outer plate came right off (pic 6) but the torsion springs are locked in and for the life of me I cant pull them out. If I could get the inner to release I might have enough room to drop this all out under the side of the car. This is about to convince me to go full air ride.

If I cant get the torsion bars out... I'm cutting them and abandoning in place, buying a heimjoint replacement kit and going full air ride.

Wont let me upload up a video...

So here I am.

Side note: I dont understand why a person would not paint all exposed metal..... I just dont get it. Grrrr.

The removeal ports shown on some cars (VS) are actually just for looks.  To adjust the rear torsion bars they don't have to be completely removed from the vehicle.  The splines on each end are only about an inch long.  Yours look like they are clear from the vehicle at the end that makes the greatest adjustment difference (40 splines).  The outer cap has a center metal cap that can be removed to add lubricant to the fine spline end (44 splines) and push it out.

Thanks Panhandle bob. I bet you can !!!!

Wolfgang, the outer has released and I could try for 2 notches then reassemble. But I purchased adjustable plates so I could tune the rear. I have had over 50 aircooled VWs and never had the inside stick like this before. I will keep at it. But a fall back would be 2 notches or full air ride. 8 am leaning to full air ride like my Ghia. Ugggg wish it would just pull put and then I would be happy.

Excellent James. Thanks, good info.
