Hey guys, I am going to replace my front beam and steering components. I was looking and it almost looks like I have to pull the body to get to it. Can this be done without removing the body? if not any tricks to getting the body off? this is a factory completed kit that I bought used.

Thanks
Tom
It is not necessary to remove the body to get a front beam out.

Remove the front wheels.

Remove the coupler from between the steering column shaft and the steering box. Disconnect the horn wire(s) along with the steering coupler.

Look at the front of the torsion bar beam. There should be two vertical mounting bars on the front, about 16" apart, with two big bolts in each. Remove the top bolts from each side (they may be rusted in and may require heat and/or BFH to remove them).

Support the beam weight on jack stands, then remove the two bottom mounting bolts (again with the heat and BFH thing).

Catch the beam when it loosens up (you may have to whack it a few times with a BFH to get it to let go - they tend to rust themselves to the headset). Note: An assembled beam weighs over 80+ lbs.

Watch for any caster shims tucked between the lower beam tube and the headset. Note where they were for replacement at re-assembly.

That's it. Assembly is the reverse (without the BFH).

Don't forget to put anti-sieze on the mounting bolt threads when assembling.
