In South Africa, we have to have plates on the front and the back, does anyone have any ideas for plate mounting, it would seem a shame to mount it on a nice blank replacement bumper over the bumper trim......

If you have the often optional horizontal bar attached to your over-riders there are clamps that go around it for mounting the license plate. I've also seen badge bars (popular on old English sports cars that could be used too). Mine has 2 holes drilled thru the front bumper trim - I had thought of bending a piece of aluminum plate and attaching it to bottom of front bumper where it wouldn't be visible as an option.
The nicest solution I have seen (no photo) was a totally separate bracket that held the license plate. An arm came down from the center of the bracket and bolted directly to the bumper (or nerf bar) support arm. The owner had drilled two 1/4 holes in the support arm to locate and anchor the license bracket. These holes were near invisible when the bracket was removed.

In truth, the owner usually carried this bracket assembly in the trunk and drove the car without the front license (as do most Corvettes and all Porsches in California). If he ever got stopped, he said it happened once, he just put on the license and schmoozed the cop into letting him go.
