I'm trying to replace the front tranny mount on my '62 pan with swing axel. I cannot get the tranny to move toward the rear enough to remove the mount. I have removed the engine, loosened the clutch cable, disconnected the shift rod, disconnected the rear tranny mount completely and cannot move the tranny back. Do I have to loosen any mounts in the spring plates? My Haynes manual says that I can do the job in 3 steps. 1. Remove mounting nuts at front of tranny, 2. loosen bolts at rear of tranny, 3. slide tranny back far enough to remove mount. Followed these steps and couldn't get the tranny to move back. I even disconnected everything so that I could replace the rear tranny mounts. What am I missing?

I've changed the front trans mount many times without pulling the engine. It sounds to me like you are ready to insert the long prybar, give it a good pull or push, I used to hold pressure on the bar with my leg and then wiggle out the old mount and install the new one.
It sounds like you are almost there.
Good Luck, Have Fun.
Couldn't move the tranny back until I removed the 3 bolt in the spring plate that hold the ends of the axels and the bottom bolt on the shocks. Once I removed these bolts the tranny moved with ease. Without the bolts removed, I would move the tranny with a pry bar and it would move back. Problem resolved.
