i have a new mechanic that is very knowedgeable about VW type 1. he is working thru my weber problems.
he drove it and when u go into 4th gear u feel this vibration, he says its the front nosecone mount that is flexing from the torque of the 2275. he races sandrails and says they have a "center mount" bracket that is welded in.
is this like a kaffir brace?
anyone have one or can enlighten me about this.

I just installed one. Was hoping it would reduce wheel hop. it didnt, but i did go through a transmission mount at the nose within a year of owning the car. This should all but eliminate having to replace that mount in the near future.

You bolt it on... no welding required. I tried to buy one manufactured by aircooled.net but both times they were out of stock and not making any. I like there setup much better. you can read about it here: http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/kwsearch.php

Here is another one:

What Paul said is all good for a tranny mount.

A Kafer brace is totally different, and in addition to any trans mount. As I understand it, primarlly used to control wheel hop out of tight corners. A Kafer brace ties the rearmost ends of the frame horns to the upper shock mounts. A four sided parrelalagram. Each side has some sort of heim joint or other type of length adjustable feature built in. Once installed, you need to carefully pre-load some sides and loosen others. This adjustment will affect the handling of your car.
