Yup..... Welcome to the "CMC Club".
@Alan Merklin posted:Its more work than meets the eye to properly repair that hood, Wolfgangs hood it’s a super deal and a lot less work
Hello Alan....yes you are correct! After moving along with the Hood Replacement Project, I decided to correct another problem that is Hood related and that is the existing Hood Latch Cable. Presently to release the Hood, I need to pull it with both hands leaving marks on my hands when through. Decided to replace it...I went back into the SOC archives and came across a comment you submitted (some time back) regarding a Replacement Hood Latch Cable Assembly that you found at Advanced Auto for $17.00.
"Just installed a Replacement Hood Latch Cable Assembly that I purchased at Advanced Auto Parts on their "HELP" rack for $17.00. It has a high-quality stainless steel woven cable that is 8 feet in length and three various T-handles are included. I cut 2/3 the length off the square stock that is wedged onto the cable and ground the square stock round so it will travel into the glassed-in cable tube in the Speedster, then set in the T-handle roll pin. Lightly greased the cable and slid it thru the cable housing tube, snipped off the excess cable and tightened the cable stop set screw total install time 15 minutes .... the front hood opens easily!" - Alan Merklin
Can you make any other recommendations as to where I can find a kit such as this today? Sounded like a good fix.....Thanks!
Hello to all,
Well, the hood got prep’d and painted for $550.00, the paint alone cost me $280.00 for a quart (Deltron). The Hood was all put back together and installed with some additional tweaking and adjustments made along the way to line-up the hood latch (also installed a new hood latch cable, made a big difference, don’t need to use two hands to open it up now). Not happy with the fitment but additional tweaking will need to be made. Was quite pleased with the color matching on the paint, not “perfect” but good enough to make me feel good. Thanks again for everyone who helped along the way and especially to Greg “Wolfgang” for providing the new hood. (See pics) The Project is now deemed completed (almost).

Looks great but you’re right about the color match; it’s so hard to get it done perfectly. Maybe feather the color out to the sides to blend it in?
It all boils down to $$ how much you want to spend; paint shop said the right wat to go was to also paint the two side fenders along with the hood for $2500.00, but then you have the Fender-Door issue......and it go's on and on until you need to paint the entire car to get a "perfect" match.....
Got that right; $2,500 for the front paint seems a bit high.
Thats what I thought.....
You know you could investigate having the whole hood covered in Xpel film it might protect the hood paint and make the colour difference fade away. It is not inexpensive but it is a great bra for the car. I have the hood, the whole front and the two fenders done half way. It is not for everybody but it is easier for the rock chips.
