A buddy of mine, the fellow that bought my '68 Beetle and V8 Beetle Panel Truck is "thinning the herd" and has his Beetle pan with a 914 trans installed up for sale.

The pan is solid and done right, the trans has been gone through with new 912 parts to make it mount and work with the rear engine configuration. 914 CV joints, new Beetle axles, 914 rear disks, 914 center shifter console/spine and shifter. All it needs is to have the shift rod tidied up/re-welded and it's good to go.

All set, shifts well, etc. etc. Could be a cool base for a Speedster.

If anyone's interested, I can give you his new email and you can get together. It's located in Connecticut, he owns a trailer, so delivery could be arranged.

Curious - Is it 5 spd in reverse? I've heard the pinion gear can be flipped on the 914 trans to provide 5 forwards speed but have never heard the details on exactly how to do. Assume this chassis would still have to be shortened for a Speedster? Know its not yours - but good discussion topic. The 914 trans is significantly cheaper than the 901/911 trans but you don't hear of any conversion details for using the 914.
The R&P can be flipped in the early end shift transaxles. pEtE used the 912 parts in order to make the switch to rear engine stronger and cleaner, plus the nose cone from the 912 helps match up with the Beetle pan a lot better.

The whole thing is slicker than snot. The 914 flat spine makes it all look more 356, that the rounded top Beetle does.
Just a cool thing for sale that I thought was worth mentioning.
