Ok guys, I'm doing the little preventative things before the Carlisle jaunt, and the question came up as to which type (or types) of fuel filter to use. I have Huco fuel pump that I replaced a faulty CB Perf. rotary pump with, and I have two filters - one before the pump, and one just before the fuel line split to the carbs. Both are mounted away from heat sources. In the past I used those cheap plastic filters, but I became concerned about how easy it is to make them leak. You can simply squeeze them hard enough and the seam will let go. I've done it more than once when replacing them. I currently have one of those glass/chrome see-through hot rod filters up front because I like to see into it, but I wonder about its durability as well. My only problem with the metal filters is that you can't see whether you have fuel flow or not, and they are pricey at $15.95 each.
So which does the brain trust recommend? The plastic ones are everywhere, so am I being a worry wart? Are the glass ones prone to shattering? Are the metal ones worth the $$ and lack of visibility? And would Guam really capsize if we added more Marines?
