Unfortunately, at this time I don't think you can just bolt on fuel injection and drive the miles away...trouble free. From what I've heard, CBs fuel injection takes some work to get it took run properly and their mapping is a bit behind the times.
Buying a set of Kadrons is about as trouble free as you can get. Easy to tune and stays in tune for a long time. If I was building a mild motor I'd go with dual Kadrons. I put 50,000 miles on a mild motor with kadrons, and seldom ever adjusted the carbs and NEVER had a plugged jet. Now I'm running 44 Webers and TWO large fuel filters and I still get plugged jets.....go figure!

My FI research is making me think that it would be sizeable undertaking. CB Performance was the first place I called; $1600.00 is what they get for their kit. That seems a little pricey considering I still have to get the thing installed. On top of that the customer service woman was less than enthused to tell me about their system

Second System, I thought seemed promising ( CSI Injection) but it sounds like a heck of a lot of work. I spoke with Garry Miller of Miller fuel Injection and he gave me a lot of great ideas on how to begin with his system but, finding an old air meter assembly from a 77 to 79 rabbit could be some thing less then fun, then I would need to figure out where to mount it, relocate the fuel pump, add two new fuel lines and add a fuel runoff tank. All said, the system could take about 40 hours, and it needs about 900.00 in parts alone, on top of that a big negative is that I might loose horse power.

When I said my Del
Look into megasquirt, I'm running it in a couple of my cars and is the way to go it cost about 200 for the kit to build the actual brain and is a lot of work soldering electronic components but you can also buy them assembled from a couple of sources for about 300 is completely programable with a laptop computer and is reliable like no carbs will ever be, also you get the most performance and fuel economy tha you never dremed of before

here is a link for the main page
www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

here is a link for someone selling them assembled
www.bitzracing.com/products/Megasquirt/index.html

but it is a lot of work

you need to get a high pressure fuel pump (like from a vw rabbit)
high pressure fuel injection fuel filter
need to plumb for high pressure feed and return
needt to get a fuel rail and pressure regulator
need to tap or buy intakes with electronic injector bungs
need to install a single throttle body with tps (throttle position sensor)
and need to install a few gm sensors

I built my systems from scratch and at the end I had close to 1000 into it but I would not give it up for carbs, specially because I'm using them in turbocharged cars where leaning for a few seconds means a broken piston
Steve, I've looked at the EFI system that Blitzracing sells. Very nice. In the future, I hope to replace my troublesome CIS system in my 1970 VW single cab (2.7 Porsche motor).
Went for a drive waaayyy up into the mountains yesterday. Talk about a loss of hp at higher elevations! Felt like I was running on 3 cylinders!

a note made by a leader in ecm/efi over on thirdgen.org and diy_efi. a guy named Grumpy.

megasquirt... what happens when something goes wrong and you are traveling... better have those carbs on hand in a box somewhere, or a second megasquirt because there is no onboard fixes, and there isnt going to be another ecm at the local autoparts store if yours breaks down while you 100 miles from home.

so if you take ANY trips with your car, beware this. Im going to make gm efi work... i cant think of a reason it wouldnt. many have cracked the gm ecms now and are even hacking code and adding functionality...
Found a company that sells complete EFI for air cooled VW motors. VW Paradise has a bacically 'bolt on' EFI system that they claim is as easy to put on as carbs. The kits are complete, and you need to buy fabricate nothing, but you do need a Windows laptop. The EFI system is from Redline/Weber and is fine-tuned by VW Paradise, which has a very good name in the VW air cooled crowd.

No prices given...you have to email/phone them.

Bruce, can you give more details on your EFI setup? My car came with CB system already installed. I thought it was trouble at first, actually the whole thing was trouble from neglect of previous owner, and it was beyond my ability to figure it all out. I ended up taking it to a local mechanic who tuned and adjusted everything in conjunction with everything else, and could analyze the FI with his scanner. Mine seems great now. Recently I thought it was all screwed up again - turns out my gas gauge had gotten stuck - reading 1/2 tank and wouldn't start. Towed it back to the mechanic who kindly put some gas in it. Doh!
Greg: At some point I was going to do a little write up on the EFI install. Let you know what I did wrong and what I would do different why I chose what I did etc. But unfortunately a week ago my flywheel came loose at 7400 rpm and wrecked a bunch of stuff so all my free time will be consumed for a while.

Basically it is a Simple Digital Systems ECU, some CB throttle bodies and fuel pump. Once installed it was easier and way quicker to tune than my old Dells and the results were much better. About the only thing I would add to the system is data logging.
Egads! Sorry to hear about the flywheel Bruce. Sounds like you know your stuff regarding FI installation. FI seems to be a bit of a rarity among this group, and I'm sure a lot of owners will be interested in a writeup you may do on that subject.

Now that the wrinkles are finally ironed out of my CB system, I've got to say I'm quite pleased with it. The car starts easily, likes to be warmed up thoroughly before it idles smooth - but thats true of all of them, right? Yesterday I drove it in stop and go city traffic and later some open stretches where I could wind it out, it runs great in all conditions. I'm still grinning.
