I pulled the fuel line from the pump to the drivers side Dellorto the other day. It consisted of what appears to be 5mm braided German fuel line out of the pump, connecting to a clear plastic fuel filter which then connects to 7mm braided fuel line that attaches to the Dell.

I am eliminating the fuel filter, getting it out of the engine cabin. I intend to run 7mm German braided line from the pump to the carb with nothing in between. I am switching to a metal filter at the junction just after the metal fuel line changes to flexible fuel line under the car.

Do I have a problem going 7mm straight from the pump to the carb as there will be no transition from 5mm to 7mm now that the filter is disappearing? Will that increase the flow to the first carb and create an issue?

Appears that the line coming into the pump from the tank is the standard 5mm.

Does it make any negligible difference which way this fuel line is set up? The original way it was set up is in the first pic. To the right is a fitting, that changes the line from 5mm to 7mm. That goes directly to the pump.

The second picture just eliminates the fitting and attaches the 7mm line directly to the filter with a clamp.

I'd prefer to just clean up the line and go with number two. That means 5mm to the filter, 7mm the rest of the way through the pump and into the Dells.

When I cleaned up my fuel lines I added the filter to the hard line that came out of the tunnel with a short piece of fuel line. I used the existing fuel line that ran to the pump, a new piece from the pump up to the middle of the shroud into a tee, and new pieces on to both carbs. I used hose clamps on everything. 1/4" inside diameter hose and everything seems to be working fine.  Never starves for fuel so the flow rate seems to be right.

You shouldn't have any issued with fuel starvation since the fuel lines feed the bowls and the bowls fill up as they drain. I doubt the 2mm will make any noticeable difference.

That's basically what I am going to do, with the exception of the "T". My Dells are set up sequentially with fuel going first to the drivers side carb and then to the passenger side.

I thought about adding the "T" until I read the Dellorto Superformance book. they insist that the Dells are supposed to run sequentially and that accounts for the double banjo fitting on the drivers side carb for the fuel lines to run in and out of. Obviously the passenger side has a single banjo fitting as the flow terminates at that carb.

Thanks for giving me your experience. I'm going with the second option and getting rid of the fitting. Worse that can happen is that I have to dial back the hose diameter and I don't think that will be necessary.

Besides it gives me one more under Speedy yoga experience getting it done. 

I gotta get a lift if I'm gonna keep this stuff up.

I agree.

5mm = .197" ( a little more than 3/16" )

1/4" is 4/16" = .250"

7mm = .276" ( a little more than 4/16" )

Going to 7mm all the way is better for fuel flow (although the pump is only going to flow what it needs and what the internal valves can pass, anyway).  

Personally, I always try to use the red-style clamps shown above.  I've seen the screw-type become over-tightened (pretty common, like - "Crank that sucker up!") and leak after a while.  

Also note that the red-style clamps are different colors for different hose ODs and since you're using metric hoses it may be difficult to find the proper clamp for your hose.  You should have to press the piss out of the clamp with pliers (I like wide-jawed electrical pliers) to just slip the clamp over the metric hose before you let it go.  What the heck are you using metric hose for, anyway?  This is 'Merica, after all......
