OK, guys...  I'm having trouble finding the fuel pump relay on my SAS Cabriolet.

It's Suby, and the fuel pump rely is only passing 10 volts to the fuel pump, which isn't enough to run the pump.    When I put a 12 volt supply directly to it, it runs fine.

Is there a way to figure out where the relay might be?   I've spent about an hour looking up under the dash, and have found lots of relays that are labeled with painter's tape, but have not been able to find the one to the fuel pump.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

According to one of my Suby friends, at least on the Impreza up to around 2007 or so, there is a relay which energizes a "Fuel Controller", which sends a series of pulses to the pump in the tank, the pulses varying in frequency depending on engine fuel need (more throttle, more pulses).

The "controller" is usually within three feet of the fuel pump in the tank, while the fuel pump relay which drives it is in the front passenger footwell above the kickpanel. It has a greenish 4-pin connector.

Remember that Lawing used the original Subaru wiring harness without mods, so things should be physically close to where they were in the Impreza.

Fuses for the pump circuit are: SBF-5 and fuse 11 supply power to the relay

I don't know the year of your donor car, but fuse maps are out on the web once you know the year.  You might try calling Steve Lawing at SAS and ask him where the relay and controller might be.

So, once you find the correct fuse, pull the fuse in and out and listen/feel for the relay clicking and THAT is the one.  Just remember that the relay may be fine, but the controller is going south, instead.

Relay photos in the Impreza footwell - look for the green connector:

I disconnected the wiring harness from the fuel pump, and used wires with alligator clips to hook up the fuel pump directly to the battery, and it started right up.

Then I put the harness back on, and connected a section of fuel line to the outlet on the pump  and tried to pump gas into a can... nothing.

And I'm only getting 10 volts at the pump.

Sorry about the controller mis-info - all of the Suby guys I know are running WRX's.

I would poke around behind the dash above the passenger's feet area and see if there is a relay with a green connector base stuck up in there.  If it's there, that's the one you want.  It might even have a circuit diagram on it o see where you could jumper the connector to see if THAT runs the pump (pointing at a bad relay).
