I'm having a bad time with my speedy when I'm stuck in traffic. Especially when it's warm like today (27c ambient)

After a while it's struggling to keep a steady idle, and I'm having to blip the throttle to keep it running.

I've got an external oil cooler with fan on there. Oil temp gauge is reading 90c at most, and my CHT gauge is sticking at about the same place, though it's on a stud rather than #3 plug as I'm running 044s and struggling to find a 12mm sensor.

I'm thinking the fuel in the carbs may be getting too hot. I've got all tin in place, but theres about a 5mm gap on one side between tin and body so I'm going to get a T2 seal and put that in place. When it's cooled down, it runs fine the next day, and when there's a gap in traffic and it gets to stretch it's legs it runs fine.

I'm also thinking of punching a firewall hole, similar to where Vintage place it.

Any other ideas, or am I on the right track?

I am considering getting some heat shield wrap for my hoses.  It is not expensive and seems simple to do.  My engine is not a show engine...although brand new, I dont think it is something that I am going to pop the hood to show many people.  But, I had this problem with my last speedster and I believe it is also the fuel lines getting too hot.

What manf is your Speedster? - CMC/FF build manuals have you cut a 1/2 moon piece of fiberglass out of the engine firewall above the flywheel to give air to the intake fan.  No screen on it - which probably would be good idea. Check out the build manual in the Library (for donating members).
