Does anyone know what's the exact replacement for the can-type gas filter Kirk installs in his new cars? I also added one of the buck a piece plastic see through ones too. I know I might be jumping the gun here; of course I don't need to replace it just yet; I just want to know for when the time comes. Any clues?

in the cars ive seen he uses the stock mesh screen that comes with a repo gas tank and the cheapo plastic see through ones you are talking about.

Be sure you use hose clamps on both ends and try and mount it under the gas tank in the front of the car before it enters the tunnel or where it exits the tunnel before the line enters the engie compartment. Ive never hadone craxk and start a fire but there are plenty of horror stories out there.
The can style filter you have now doesn't have any numbers on it?? Mine had numbers that I went into the parts store with and they looked it up with that number and then told me what it was. I don't know if it is the same on a Vintage however, but the technique of finding out what it is should work.
I use a Chrysler can type ( available at Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts etc)that looks like an oversized (2" x 4-1/2") tuna can with inlet and outlet nipples on the opposite ends. I mount this filter just aft of the gas tank and then the VW plastic filter forward of the engine compartment bulkhead.
Never run this in line plastic filter in the engine compartment....
I have seen these mounted directly over the distributor, an engine fire waiting to happen
Thanks guys; know what Alan? I mounted mine in the engine compartment; not on top of the distributor though....I guess that tends to rub off on you once you see it mounted like that on every VW you've seen....should've been more thoughtful. I guess I can always retrofit it and do it right, just need to buy a few feet of fuel hose.
Well, Troy, most of the time he's too busy to take phone calls and more often than not he doesn't answer e-mails either. I figure it's better to leave him alone for the minor things and contact him only for the major things. He's a good guy who sells a good product and stands by it but he's not too accessible sometimes. I figure I can get the answers from some of the more experienced guys here.
