Car rewired, gauge works, but is bouncy with float bouncing. I noticed today that the gauge was reading full. I ran out of gas, and coasted into a gas station. Anyway, I filled it 1/2 way, and looked, the gauge read roughly 1/2. So I filled it up, and it is close to empty on the gauge. What happened?? What do I look for? Why did the gauge suddenly start reading backwards?

Damn! Sounds like it's wired Bass-Akwards.
Should have +12V going to one side of the gauge, a "hot" wire going from the gauge to the sender and ground on the other side of the sender (usually through the hold-down screws into the tank, but may have a separate ground wire going to one of the hold-down screws).
If it's wired correctly, then the float support (actuator arm inside of the tank) is bent in the opposite direction than it should be, making the sender work backwards.
That's all I can think of, but then we've been "tailgating" out by the pool before the start of the Saints/Patriots game.......
At least my neighbors like my new Avatar........
What did you say?
That's echo at NSA since they are all furloughed as non-essential - so no one to scrutinize your posts.
Oh God... Somebody fine that video fast!
It's a VS style combo gauge if that helps anybody. I do have a multimeter, so when I get home, I can run some tests if you guys can tell me what to test for.... man, what a run-on sentence.
Thanks Jim! Now my day is complete.
Now that funny !!!
Great way to start the day
