I have a VW gas gauge with a VW gas tank and a replica 356 dual gauge cluster (regular three rounds with one having fuel / temp)

so - i have gas in the tank, but the gauge doesn't show/register anything. I want to make sure it's wired properly before i test the sender.

Since the tank is mounted on the fiberglass body, do i need to ground it? I've run a separate ground wire along side the positive for the sender. The ground wire is mounted to the sender bolt (i think there are 6 or 8 of them with little Teflon gaskets.

So that is my first Q.

my second Q is the actual wiring on the back of the gauge cluster. I've wired it the same as the temp gauge (which works fine).

for each of the gas / temp gauges on the back of the cluster, there are three terminals. positive, negative and sender - right?

can someone shed some light on this for me? my TODO checklist is getting really small and I'd love to cross this one off.

Thanks.

you rock alan.

because the car is brand new and i just finished doing every inch of wiring, i assumed the ground on the tank was good. i undid it and saw this greasy residue (because of the teflon washer not tightly done up).

so, gauge says 1/2 tank now. Thanks mate. :)

a new connection, tight teflon seal, dab of dielectric grease and we're good to go.
