I got my gas heater installed over the last few days. It's started to get colder up here in the great white north. I got the last of the details finished off today and went for a drive tonight to test it out. It works great with the top down! I can only imagine how warm and toasty it will be with the top up.

The steps were; fabricate a mounting bracket for the heater, mount the heater, fab a bracket for the thermostat control and heater/defrost control and mount them, mount the fuel pump and tap it into the fuel line, run the wiring harnesses to the battery, thermostat and fuel pump, run the exhaust and inlet pipes out the side of the car behind the right front tire, and fab-up and install the defroster and heater piping. All told it took about 3 days.

The kit I got came with everything I needed except a few nuts and bolts to mount the heater to the bracket. It included all hoses, T fitting for the gas line, all hose clamps, all wiring and connectors (pre-assembled). Oh yeah, I also had to get a few 1.5" ABS plumbing elbows etc. to direct the air up to the dash vents, and down for heat.

It's a bit expensive, but when I figure the cost of the car, and how much more use I will get out of it as a result of the heater, I think it was well worth it.

Ron,

I had/ one of those in my Ghia, it'll go into the Porsche when it's done. They are PISSA!!!

It used to get so hot that I had to serve umbrella drinks to my passenger(s) to keep them from getting heat stroke. In the dead of Winter, snow on everything, the car was bone dry with steam coming off of it everywhere from the heat inside/cold moisture outside.

YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

Luck.,

TC
Ron,

I've waited for the day when you'd talk about the install. I want one of these heaters pretty badly- could you post some pictures of the fishined installation, and provide as many details as possible (maybe in the knowledge section)? Some of us non-CA guys are dieing to hear about it! You talk about expense- how much are we talking?
Hi Stan,
The heater kit cost me Cdn$1650.00. That's about US$1250 or so, about 5 months ago. I got it through my company, wholesale from the Cdn distributor. I told them that once I got mine done, maybe we could sell a couple for them.

In the pictures the wiring, fuel line, inlet and exhaust pipes are all shown. I have black plastic split tubing that covers these normally so they stay hidden.

As for writing up the install, the first time someone does an install, I'll volunteer to help by email, and will collect the emails and photos at the end, and post that as the install proceedure.
Ron
