I would like some comments on the performance of single verses double carbs on replica speedsters and also what type of mileage each gets.....While an army soldier in Germany in 1972 i bought a 64 coupe 90 h.p...i was only 21 and it was a little hot rod...driving it put me in a trance.....wrecked it...had dual carbs....that's when I saw my first 58 speedster and fell in love...someday i'll have one....time has come and i need to make some decisions on power....would like any feedback,,thanks

From my limited experience; comparing a totally stock 1500 cc 1969 Karmann Ghia I had and my new 1776 cc dual carb Speedster I find that I need to fill up my tank more with the Speedster and I use it less than I used the Ghia which was a daily driver. Maybe the gas tank in the Speedster is smaller, I don't know....

Still though, I can confirm that I've heard what Steve says above; that the dual carb engines are more efficient.
It's less than 20% increase in displacement.

Most dual carb setups are running rich, which will affect fuel economy. That's because you can't toast you engine when it's rich like you can if it's too lean.

Performance takes fuel. If you want to go fast, you will burn more gas. You need to decide what's important. My advice is, pick performance. I've read lot's of complaints here about cars that aren't fast enough. Never seen one that said it wasn't fuel efficient enough.
