Scott, ....What is probably happening is there is two small rolled barrels at the base of the gas pedal, a hinge pin is set through these for the pedal to rotate on.
Either the pin is loose, worn or the barrels are loose and ready to break off from the stamped sheep metal pedal. You can buy a rebuild kit for under $20 and has everything....Best to avoid the plastic junk pedal some aftermarket suppliers have. Also check that the roller wheel is in good condition and that the roller arm doesn't has excessive lateral play that allows the roller to jump off the pedal cam. Alan
